A key milestone for Open Cosmos Aegean: a new ground station in Crete is now operational   Open Cosmos have led the consortium responsible for building a new satellite ground station hosted at the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH) in Crete. Consortium member Libre Space Foundation integrated the station's subsystems into a single working system, delivered the pass scheduling and control software, and installed and brought the station into service, which it continues to support. This is a vital step for Greece’s Small Satellite Program which aims to build a constellation to enable real-time Earth Observation, maritime surveillance, and environmental monitoring capabilities across the region.  “Our work doesn’t stop at launch. We also help build the infrastructure Greece needs to communicate with its satellites and put their data to use. UK Gov selects Open Cosmos as approved provider for £8bn sovereign comms framework Open Cosmos has been selected by the British Government Commercial Agency (GCA) as an officially certified partner for the £8 billion TacSys framework, providing satellite connectivity via our low Earth orbit (LEO) constellation, ConnectedCosmos. Running until June 2034, TacSys will integrate innovative private sector technologies into Ministry of Defence (MoD) capabilities for secure, resilient communications. ConnectedCosmos serves as a multi-layer LEO architecture directly aligned with the MoD's £7.5bn investment in the Digital Backbone and Targeting Web. By using Optical Inter-Satellite-Links (ISL), data routes directly between satellites without touching the ground, bypassing subsea cables and delivering real-time, actionable intelligence straight into tactical networks. "The British government recognises the need for a modern, sovereign-controlled satellite network over the UK, one which will not only deliver high speed connectivity, but one that offers secure data transfer and layered architecture options for future readiness.
