Today is my last day on Twitter, until or unless something significantly changes on this platform. You can follow me over on Threads or Bluesky if you still want to revel in Arsenal minutiae.
The countdown to 2024-25 has also proved to be a countdown to the end of my time here.

I’m quite sad about moving off Twitter. We were asked to run a Twitter account for a client in 2009 & I didn’t really know what it was or how it worked only that Stephen Fry was popular on it, so we decided to set up an account to test things out and that’s how @OptaJoe was born.

It was perfect for those little bitesize facts that we at Opta produce and has gone on to be a brilliant marketing tool for us as well as a way of connecting directly with fans as opposed to hoping clients used our content.

After a while I realised that I had too many Arsenal gems to share & couldn’t put them on all on the official feed, so I decided to set up my own account and used it to build connections, answer questions about Opta or go into detail without clogging up the main stream.

I’ve met dozens of people, formed some great connections and made some amazing friends who I see offline these days. I can always ask and be directed to a pub to watch Arsenal games wherever I am in the world and met Gooners all over the globe.

Twitter provided a great community of people I follow & I’m really grateful to those who follow me to share in Arsenal’s trials & tribulations. You saw great debate, read fascinating articles shared by others and laughed at some of the hilarious things that got posted here but….

It’s now a shadow of it’s former self & like many great things, at some point it all comes to an end.
Thanks for following, for the kind words, the help with travel advice & recommended bars on my travels & most of all for sharing the things I posted. See you on the other side.
