The lesbian bar story is useful because nearly every time you hear some innuendo about a successful Dsa chapter being a ‘bad coalition partner’ or ‘not listening to the community’ it’s because they wouldn’t play ball with a clique of entitled narcissists like the one in the story

Lesbian bar article really feels like an artifact to me. It's kind of annoying to see people act like this is the definitive experience of lesbian/sapphic spaces. Maybe it's just a bigger city thing but NYC seems to have moved past this (or at least, there are ample alternatives)

A lot of people seem to confuse unspoken social "rules" that emerge from how people in general interpret and react to certain behaviors with some sort of official rules, which are consciously set and can be consciously changed

Anyway all rules around interviews correspond with the interviewers' idea of what "putting in effort" looks like. Obv many of these will be culturally contingent and therefore unfair and even sexist, racist, etc. But if you want a job the time to address that is not mid-interview

It's not possible to be like Zohran when you derive your actions from rationalist principles. Charm, trustworthiness, and genuine charisma come from a person following their instincts with gusto. Rationalists separate themselves from their own desires and it's obvious to everyone

People on twitter are constantly looking for the avatar of their culture war fixation to scream at. Unfortunately for everyone, one of the only times someone will come out as a perfect avatar for such an issue is when they're apologizing for it.
I honestly do not understand why everyone is mad at Nikole Hannah-Jones! She attempted to live her values, was confronted by incredibly difficult choices, then changed her mind and worked through these choices in public with integrity! What more do you people want from her?!

This is where we need to hijack the rhetoric and direct it toward a wider array of regulations. DSA has a massive platform and we can use the fear they're fomenting to tie different regulations together in an AI regulation platform
underpriced risk of the current AI safety trajectory is we succeed in making Skynet/Matrix illegal (obviously good) but all pat ourselves on the back and forget to deal with the non apocalyptic but still socially ruinous consequences like job losses or childhood cognitive decline
