Silver lags gold, then it overtakes it. Shawn Khunkhun has watched that happen twice, and he does not think this cycle will look like the last one.
The reason is the buyer. Industrial demand has climbed from 10% of the silver market to half of it, and those buyers are not investors. Solar, electric vehicles, electronics. They need the metal whether or not the price suits them. So the Samsungs of the world now compete for the same ounces as the investor trying to preserve his wealth.
He has also built on that conviction. In 2020 he backed a small, high-grade silver project in British Columbia that the market had written off, valued at $20 million. Five years later it was a billion-dollar merger and a New York listing, and the company was funding its own work for the first time.
