A spectacular lightning barrage along the western Istra Peninsula, Croatia, last night, September 18th, 2026. Slow-moving, isolated storms produced massive CG lightning bolts for several hours.

Absolutely floored to capture this tonight. The storm was pretty much done and this was likely a clear air death bolt but good grief what a doozy of a burst of electricity. Always wanted landing points on Picacho Peak but this was something else. #azwx

Closer to home some smaller spot fires started to get away a little late this afternoon near my place at Knuckey Lagoon but appeared nicely contained shortly after by the firebreaks and some back burning by the RFS. All good now 👍 #Darwin #TopEnd

The WPAC basin has now surpassed 200 total ACE units. As of now, this is the 10th earliest time that a season has hit this benchmark, dating back to the last 82 years. This has been a function of the incredible long-track Typhoons we have observed this year, with just Dolphin and Bavi attributing 112.4 units themselves. Additionally, currently active Typhoon #Saudel is on track to add about 30 more by the time it dissipates later this month. With 4 months left in the year, seasonal ACE approaching 450+ seems plausible.
