The Calder Cup paid a special visit to Osler yesterday! Earlier this year, the Toronto Marlies became the 2026 American Hockey League Calder Cup Champions, and we are lucky enough to share a very special physician with the team. Our Chief of Staff, Dr. Greg Rutledge, Executive VP, Medical and Academic Affairs, and team physician for the Marlies, arranged a special visit with the Cup at Brampton Civic, visiting teams across Multi-Care Kidney Clinic, Women’s and Children’s, Inpatient Oncology and more.

Dr. Elizabeth Liao, Osler family physician, and her twin sister Tina are Amazing Race Canada champions! 🇨🇦✨ Dr. Liao has been working at Osler since December 2021, and even earlier as a resident. She is a family physician in the Primary Care Obstetrics Group, providing obstetrics and newborn care at Brampton Civic and Women's and Children's outpatient clinics at Peel Memorial. "The Amazing Race Canada has been a lifelong dream for my sister and me! We've been applying since Season 1. I feel so fortunate to have been casted for this season. It was truly a dream come true and exceeded all my expectations! Working as a physician and having gone through medical training definitely helped me excel on The Amazing Race Canada - specifically, memorization skills and being able to perform under pressure!" Happy #InternationalDogDay 🐶 Osler’s Recreation Therapists have been welcoming therapy dogs into our hospitals since August 2010, first in inpatient care spaces and expanding to include visits for staff, physicians, learners and volunteers in 2019. Our partnership with @SJA_Canada Therapy Dogs has made 16 years of therapy dog visits at Osler possible, having a profound impact on patients and staff members. Our growing inpatient program currently services Recreation Therapy patients on 8 units across Brampton Civic and Etobicoke General. Patients staying in hospital often miss their own pets at home and find coping with serious illnesses is easier with the calming presence and comfort therapy dog visits provide. Our Recreation Therapists have also hosted more than 65 events and 3,500+ staff interactions across Osler sites since 2019. More recently, they’ve partnered with our Healthy Workplace team to help spread the word and bring these special visits to staff during their breaks. We are so grateful to our partners and dedicated Osler team members for bringing these evidence-based practices - in the form of furry friends - to our teams and patients.

Last week, post-secondary students from the Osler Research Institute for Health and Innovation's Summer Student Research Program presented their final projects. 👏 After spending 12 weeks working alongside research teams across the organization, the students gained hands-on research experience contributing to a diverse range of projects and were proud to present their work and accomplishments. We are grateful for the opportunity to provide students with this enriching experience, made possible through funding from the federal government’s Canada Summer Jobs Program and @TorontoMet. Congratulations to all, and a special thank you to Steven N. Liss, MP @MSidhuLiberal and MP @SoniaLiberal who joined us for the poster presentations.
