Things I think Ray Peat was right about: ◇ His core thesis. Energy is everything in life. ◇ Optimizing metabolism is the key to health and thus life ◇ Serotonin is grossly mischaracterized by the mainstream media + most people in general, and in excess causes a ton of problems in both the brain and gut ◇ Omega 6 excess is terrible ◇ Sugar is not unhealthy and has health benefits, and it does not cause diabetes or fat gain uniquely under the right conditions ◇ Prolactin is slept on as being a huge problem ◇ Blood levels of things like estrogen and thyroid are often useless in terms of reflecting biological activity ◇ Hypothyroidism is a massive issue ◇ Vitamin D is absolutely amazing ◇ The youth steroids (pregnenolone, progesterone, DHEA) are AWESOME and deserve attention ◇ Orange juice is a health food ◇ Coconut oil has some incredible unique properties ◇ Aspirin is amazing and its benefits go way beyond inflammation reduction ◇ Keeping the gut + blood low on endotoxin is absolutely critical for good health ◇ Coffee / caffeine are amazing for health ◇ Milk is a nearly perfect food ◇ Calcium deficit (especially relative to phosphate) and excess parathyroid hormone are often overlooked and can contribute to a number of issues ◇ Carbon dioxide's role in health is (again) overlooked and huge and probably way more that I just can't even think of. Happy?

How about Peaters' position on sugar? I have tried many times to go from lowish carb to higher carb, and my CGM says "uh uh". Even over weeks. I am lean and fit, and have no gut / LPS issues that I can tell.

Posts like this are extremely important. Every time I’m in some sort of cult that’s doing great stuff, or even just working on a project with friends, my job is to absolutely piss them off with criticism. I think you should strive for the emotions, the heated debates, and not being agreeable. Pissing others off simply out of love for the truth and whatever you’re trying to create. Never allow people to spit on one of the most beautiful things in the world: relativity, context, and critical thinking. Do you want to be right, or do you want to know the truth? The problem with Peating is that the whole storyline, the protagonists, and the aesthetic are simply so beautiful that people completely lose themselves in it.
Ray Peat was wrong about a lot. Here are 10 of the big ones, why, and what else the community often gets wrong, misrepresents, or overlooks:

Saffron restores motivation + spark for life in clinical trial. Anhedonia is that feeling of meh. I don't care. Whatever. Yet adding on 30 mg of saffron reduced anhedonia substantially over antidepressants alone. This coincides with increases in dopamine neurotransmission and BDNF signaling.
Depression isn't some unknown genetic condition like your doctor tells you. In fact, we know the exact biological causes behind it. Here are 10 hallmarks of depression, & what you might be able to do about each:

If this angered you then i have one simple question. Are you more concerned with obeying Peat's ideas or actually improving your metabolism and health? We have the same end goal (supposedly). Why get so mad at new ideas that might help you get there?

NAC (n-acetylcysteine) almost completely prevents obesity in study, without changing calories. At a standard human equivalent dose (~2g/day) NAC: ◇ Reduced body weight on a fattening diet ◇ Improved insulin sensitivity ◇ Reduced adipose inflammation ◇ Prevented fatty liver ◇ Altered fat metabolism genes (increases in CPT, PG1α, UCPs, reductions in CD36, PPARγ) The ROS ➜ inflammation ➜ obesity cycle is real. This is not to say you'll take NAC and notice weight loss - these studies are administered for the human equivalent of 10+ years.
N-Acetylcysteine (NAC) is potent anti-aging medicine. It extends lifespan, lowers inflammation, improves metabolism and even sexual function. Let's cover the numerous benefits, the science and how you can implement it:

40 Hz frequencies stopped early Alzheimer's. Light + sound gamma frequencies. Exposing the eyes and ears to synchronized flickering light and auditory encourages the brain's electrical signals to lock into this rhythm (sensory entrainment). We have a few studies on this. It's insane.
This is nuts lmao Literal vibrations at 40 Hz prevents Alzheimer's in animals. Just shaking the cage at this frequency: - reduced tau phosphoylation - preserved neruons from death - improved memory There is so much about the body we don't understand

Mastic gum has the power to improve cavities, gingivitis, reduce dental plaques and has even been called a "potent antitumor agent" for oral cancer. Cavities are formed from the demineralization of the tooth enamel. This happens due to bacteria that produce acid, which dissolves its crystalline structure. Fortunately, saliva helps us remineralize the enamel. Mastic gum has both anti-bacterial and pro-saliva properties, making it especially effective. Mastic powerfully eliminates cavity causing bacteria. Chewing it for over 15 minutes results in reductions in: ➜ Strep Mutans ➜ Lactobacilli two oral bacteria that are known to produce acid and degrade enamel. Mastic has been shown in trials to reduce dental plaque + gum inflammation. In an hour a day of chewing for just 1 week, mastic reduced: ➜ Plaque index ➜ Gingival index Mastic has direct anti-inflammatory effects in addition to the antibacterial properties which contributes to this. Mastic gum has also been shown to regenerate cavities in experimental setups. A crazy experiment induced cavities and watched the impact of either mastic or xylitol gum on the remineralization of the enamel. Within 3 weeks, both showed noticeable reductions in the cavity areas. Mastic is "a potent antitumor agent" that kills oral cancer cells. Oral tumors effectively shrink when mastic is given. That's due to its ability to induce apoptosis of these cells - programmed cell suicide. This is in part via its anti-inflammatory action. If you want to buy the mastic gum I use personally + with our clients, comment GRECO below and I'll DM you the link

Inflammation is the root cause behind most chronic fatigue and brain fog. Cytokines directly impair mitochondrial function, blood flow and alter neurotransmission in the brain. A lot of this inflammation starts in the gut - endotoxin floods through a permeable barrier and effects every system in the body. Routinely see this in my clients with these issues. It starts in the gut.

Your "third eye" has powerful anti-cortisol properties. The pressure point EX-HN 3 is right between your eyebrows, and it can: ⇨ Reduce anxiety ⇨ Lower stress ⇨ Reduce cortisol ⇨ Alter glucocorticoid receptor expression Pretty wild stuff for literally just pressing on your face.
You can reduce stress, inflammation and pain - no supplements, for free, using the power of PRESSURE POINTS. Here are some of the key regions to hit (🧵1/6): #1 EX-HN3 Known as the third eye - this point has been studied to reduce anxiety, blood pressure, breathing rate, and heart rate.

Bright light literally helps your brain flush out toxins. Recent research has shown that bright light therapy enhanced the functioning of the glymphatic system, which takes extracellular waste from the brain and clears it out. More on this below.
You can literally clean out your brain doing this. The GLYMPHATIC SYSTEM in the brain helps flush out various toxins from the cerebrospinal & interstitial fluids of the brain. It might just be your behind fatigue, cognitive decline and even depression. Here's how (🧵1/8):

Finally, there are random quotes people often use completely out of context. Random stuff like this vitamin C quote, he also said it was contaminated with black fungus and such. We have no sources, no information on this, they're just quotes of his probably referring to single products decades ago, and people now use this to say that no one should ever take vitamin C.

The theory here was that zinc had a positive impact on the central melanocortin system. Essentially - leptin is a hormone released by the fat tissue that, when it hits the brain, reduces appetite and increases fat burning. However, to balance that out is a neurotransmitter called neuropeptide Y - which stimulates appetite and reduces fat burning. Zinc in this trial and in some other experiments has been shown to reduce neuropeptide Y and both increase leptin synthesis + signaling. Zinc also has a number of other properties that would impact body composition. - Central for thyroid hormone action - Aids in androgen synthesis - Reduces inflammation (directly fat promoting) - Reduces cortisol (also directly fat promoting) - Mitochondrial effects
