La soirée Canadienne at 7 pm eastern an hour before La soirée du hockey every Saturday night. Extremely popular. Singers and dancers plus the mayor and priest of villages would come in studio to put forward the village's culture. The host was Louis Bilodeau

Fun fact: this young boy now dubs Leonardo DiCaprio’s voice in the Québec French versions of his movies. As for the song, if you’re at all fascinated or curious about it, listen to this adaptation of another folk classic set to the same melody. youtube.com/watch?v=ev6OsvKM…

It’s an old Quebec TV show for the 70s called La soirée canadienne. They travelled from small villages to small villages to présent the city and meet the local folkloric clubs. It’s hilarious in retrospect.

That kid grew up to be a poppîar tv and radio host who got caught, in a police sting, masturbating in a park. Funny story.

J'ai vu le loup, le renard et la belette-ancient French folk song. Balfa Brothers recorded a Cajun version about same time as this television version from Quebec. youtu.be/Nep2wKHqNo4

This article (with automatic translation if required) should enlighten you. fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soir%C… The program was aired from Sherbrooke. I remember when around 1968 my grandmother got cable TV so she could watch it in Montreal.

We call those “chansons a répondre” Don’t know when they started in the Queb culture but I had to learn some in the early 80s still. Very popular in family gatherings This looks a variety show on tv in the 70s.

La Soirée Canadienne is part of the “Folkrore Québécois” my husband was 6 years old when they visit his village in 1973. Our generation grew up with La Soirée Canadienne that was airing every Saturday night. It was almost a religion to watch just like Sunday church. People in each village would perform something whether it was signing, dancing or do la “gigue” dance just like below youtu.be/MNeMonPg-fA?si=EpgQ…

It's the French-Canadian interpretation of square dancing, popular in QC in the 1800's. The lead singer being named a "câlleur" an anglicism as he'd "call" the song. More info on this cultural heritage on QC's gov. website here: patrimoine-culturel.gouv.qc.… /2
