We'll gather on 10/6 to mark three years since one of the darkest periods in recent history for Palestinians and Israelis began. The pain, loss, and destruction weigh heavily on our hearts. Register Here < tinyurl.com/3tyeyw65 For Palestinians in Gaza, the devastation is beyond words: cities destroyed, millions displaced, and tens of thousands killed. The war in Gaza continues to this day. In the West Bank, Palestinian lives are at risk amid settler's terror and military violence under occupation. Israelis continue to carry the trauma, pain, and loss of the horrific events of October 7, 2023, as well as the war and missile attacks that followed. Hear from PCFF members Abdelrahman Amer, whose son was killed in 2024 in an Israeli military strike, and Adva Finkelstein, whose the father of her children was killed by Hamas at the Nova music festival on October 7. Their stories are deeply personal, yet they also speak to a larger possibility: that even in the face of pain and violence, there are Palestinians and Israelis who continue to choose dialogue and believe in peace.

After the court ruled in June that the PCFF could resume holding Dialogue Meetings in schools, the first meetings took place last week. Around 300 12th-grade students have already met members of the Israeli-Palestinian Bereaved Families Forum. Liora Eilon, Maayan Yinon, Ibi Troen, Niv Sarig, Tal Bar, and Yifat Mohar – six bereaved Forum members who lost loved ones in the conflict, including on October 7 – shared with the students their unbearable loss and their choice to work for dialogue, reconciliation, and peace between Israelis and Palestinians. Alongside their personal stories, the Israeli Forum members also brought into the classroom the relationships and partnerships they have built over the years with their Palestinian partners, creating an opportunity for students to learn about and hear the voices of those who are currently unable to attend these meetings because of the ongoing closure. The students listened and asked questions – including difficult ones. The meetings created a space to listen, ask, and talk, and to show that even in the face of pain and loss, it is possible to choose dialogue. A 12th-grade student wrote the following after meeting Liora Eilon, whose son Tal was killed at Kibbutz Kfar Aza on October 7: “I never really thought it was possible to resolve the conflict with the Palestinians, but after listening to Liora, I became a little more convinced. I still need to think about the things that were said, but it made me pay attention to other perspectives. I think it is very important for students to hear views that are different from their own, because conversations like these are exactly what can open us up to ideas that are different from what we think, and that is very important.” Help us reach more schools 🧑‍🏫 Are you a teacher or educator? Invite us to meet your students. 💬 Are you a parent of a high school student? Contact their teacher or school principal and suggest inviting the Forum into the classroom. On the occasion of the International Day of Peace, observed today, September 21, members of the Israeli-Palestinian Parents Circle–Families Forum came together to build a symbolic bridge representing the values that unite us. While the genocide in Gaza continues unabated, and amid the harsh reality prevailing in the West Bank, Forum members, despite all the pain, continue to hold on to peace and to the belief that a day will come when we can all live in safety, dignity, and peace. Through their shared work, Forum members are building a bridge of humanity, freedom, reconciliation, and peace in the face of the violence and hatred surrounding us. This day should serve as a reminder to the entire world that the occupation must end, that the Palestinian people have the right to live in freedom and dignity, like all peoples of the world, and that both Palestinians and Israelis have the right to live in safety and peace, side by side.

We, the undersigned civil society organizations in Israel, stand with the filmmakers of NAZA, Yuval Abraham and Rachel Shor, and wish to express our appreciation for their courage and commitment to seeking the truth. We also call on the authorities to put an end to the wave of incitement and threats of violence against them, and to refrain from taking any steps aimed at persecuting them or their sources. The official responses to the film and the threats directed at its creators are reminiscent of dictatorial regimes. We strongly oppose the idea of revoking the citizenship of journalists and artists because of their work. Citizenship is not a prize granted by those in power or by the government; it is a fundamental right belonging to each and every one of us. To those who are afraid to express a clear position, we say that freedom of expression and freedom of the press are part of the struggle for democracy, and that dictatorship and the silencing of voices never stop with a single victim or a single issue. Most of us, the representatives of the undersigned organizations, have not yet seen NAZA. However, the subject it addresses — Israel’s open-fire policy in Gaza — is of profound importance. The immense destruction in the Gaza Strip, the number of civilians killed, including tens of thousands of children, together with testimonies and suspicions of violations and war crimes, all demand investigation, public scrutiny, and accountability. We call for these suspicions to be seriously investigated, and for journalists to be allowed into Gaza to conduct an in-depth investigation into the facts, so that responsibility can be established and conclusions drawn in accordance with the evidence and findings.

In the face of the attacks against Yuval Abraham and Rachel Shor, the creators of *NAZA*, we feel it is important to say: freedom of artistic expression must be protected, as must the right of artists and filmmakers to document, criticize, and make their voices heard — even, and especially, when that voice is difficult for the society in which they live to confront. It is difficult for any society to look at itself in the mirror, but confronting the truth is the first step toward change. Just as all the injustices of the occupation cannot justify the atrocities of October 7, the atrocities of October 7 cannot justify war crimes or revenge against an entire people. In Gaza, the humanitarian catastrophe, killing, and destruction continue, and bodies are still being recovered day after day from beneath the rubble of homes and buildings. Behind the numbers are human beings, families, and children — and their lives and dignity are worth no less than those of anyone else. The path toward a different future does not lie in silencing voices, but in recognizing pain, humanity, and responsibility, and in working toward peace, security, freedom, and equality for Israelis and Palestinians.

From the village of Abu Falah and the community of Al-Qabun, east of Ramallah, we wrapped up our “Packing Hope” campaign, through which we distributed school bags and supplies to Palestinian students. Over the course of two weeks, we distributed more than 1,700 backpacks filled with stationery and school supplies to children in villages and communities across the West Bank, from south to north. These children live under difficult conditions and amid ongoing attacks by settlers and the Israeli military. But “Packing Hope” was never just about a school bag. It was a message to every child: You are not alone. There are people who believe in your right to learn, to dream, and to build your future. We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the Parents Circle’s American Friends, to everyone who donated and helped from within Israel, and to everyone who supported this initiative and believed that human solidarity can make a difference. Thank you to everyone who carried hope with us and helped turn it into a message of love and solidarity.

After more than eight years of waiting for justice, the settler convicted of killing Aisha al-Rabi in 2018 has been sentenced to 13 years in prison. Aisha was killed after he threw a stone at the car in which she was traveling with her husband and their children. He was also ordered to pay her family NIS 258,000 in compensation. Aisha was the wife of Yaqoub al-Rabi, a member of the Israeli-Palestinian Bereaved Families Forum and the Forum’s Palestinian Community Manager. She was a mother of eight and was killed in front of her husband and their young daughter and son – a loss that has left a deep mark on the family’s lives. Following the sentencing, Yaqoub said: “We have waited a long time for this moment. All I have sought throughout these years was justice – for the man who murdered my wife and took their mother away from my children to be punished for his crime. Nothing can bring Aisha back to us, and no sentence can erase the pain my family has carried since that day. But I needed to know that the person who killed her was being held accountable for his actions.” For Yaqoub and his family, the years that passed were not simply years spent waiting for a verdict. They were years of living with Aisha’s absence, with the pain, questions, and memories left by her killing, while her daughter grew up carrying the memory of the mother she lost before her eyes. We embrace Yaqoub and his family. No sentence can bring Aisha back or heal the wound left by her death. For us, this sentence is not a cause for celebration or revenge, but an acknowledgment of responsibility and a painful reminder of the heavy price exacted by violence, hatred, and conflict. Alongside the importance of the conviction and sentence, this case also exposes a broader and painful reality: Palestinians and Israelis are not tried under the same legal system, nor do they receive the same treatment from law enforcement and judicial institutions. A Palestinian who is arrested or put on trial faces a fundamentally different system from the one an Israeli faces. For us, there can be no justice as long as a Palestinian life is not afforded the same value and protection as an Israeli life, and as long as rights and the law are not equal for all. We, at the Israeli-Palestinian Bereaved Families Forum, believe that justice does not end with holding the person who killed Aisha accountable for his actions. Justice means reaching a reality in which the value of a human life is not determined by identity or nationality. Justice means ending the occupation and systems of discrimination and racism, breaking the cycle of violence, and building a future in which Palestinians and Israelis live in equality, freedom, dignity, security, and peace.

Parents Circle Famlies Forum strongly condemns and protests the Israeli military raid on the home of the daughter of Bassam Aramin – a peace activist, Forum member, and the Forum’s Palestinian spokesperson – in the Dahiyat al-Salam neighborhood of Anata, while she was at home with her four young children. Bassam is a bereaved father whose 10-year-old daughter, Abir, was killed in 2007. According to the family, Israeli soldiers entered the home without explaining the reason for the raid, frightening and shouting at the mother and her children. They then caused damage to the home and the family’s property. The PCFF stands in full solidarity with the Aramin family. Actions of this kind only deepen fear, hatred, and pain, and run directly counter to efforts to end the cycle of violence and build a future based on security, dignity, and peace for both Palestinians and Israelis. We are confident that this traumatic incident experienced by Bassam Aramin’s family will not weaken Bassam’s determination to continue working to end the occupation and to build a better future for everyone.

Israeli soldiers told him at the site that it was now a ‘closed military zone’ – as Baw puts it, ‘closed to me but not the settlers’.” “There is nothing unusual about the loss of the Baw family’s land. More unusual is his own history. There can be few Palestinians whose relations with Israelis have been more volatile than his.”

As the new school year begins in the West Bank, we continued today distributing school bags to Palestinian students, with our stop this time in Khan al-Ahmar. Despite the pressure and repression faced by the community from the Israeli military and settlers, we made sure to stand alongside the children and offer them a message of solidarity and hope. Education is a right, and children deserve a safe and dignified future. "The Parents Circle Families Forum"

This weekend, following what our friend Waji and his family experienced in Idhna, Israeli members of the Parents Circle traveled to meet him and be there with him. Mor Inon, Co-Chair of the Parents Circle’s Board, who lost both of her parents on October 7, was among them and wrote about the visit: “Look, there is room here for everyone. The people here want to live together, in peace.” These were among the first words Waji said to us today, as we sat on the porch of his home in Idhna, looking out over the hills and the village. Waji is a longtime member of the Israeli-Palestinian Bereaved Families Forum. He lost his brother, who was 13 years old, after he was shot by Israeli soldiers in the center of the village. Early Thursday morning, soldiers entered his home looking for someone. His sons told them there was no one by that name in the house. The soldiers forced them against the wall, overturned a table, and threatened them at gunpoint. Only after a female soldier opened a tablet and said the last name of the person they were looking for did it become clear that they were actually looking for a neighbor. One of Waji’s sons was taken at gunpoint to show the soldiers where the entrance to the correct house was. Even the road to Idhna tells a story. The entrance to the village from the Tarqumiyah checkpoint side has been blocked for nearly three years. Since then, some 30,000 residents have been living with the consequences of a closure that disrupts almost every aspect of daily life. A trip to Hebron that once took about ten minutes now takes around an hour and a half. Businesses have suffered, daily life has been disrupted, and some children even struggle to get to school. And Idhna is only about a five-minute drive from Beit Guvrin. Two realities so different, separated by such a short distance. It is something that surprises me every time — and horrifies me, too. And through all of this, Waji does not sound hopeless. He is a businessman and an expert in poultry-farm construction. He worked in Israel for many years and also consults in countries across the Arab world. He and his wife raised five well-educated children — a warm and wonderful family. There is something deeply unsettling about sitting across from someone who has been through a night like that, who lives in a reality like this, and hearing him say, of all things: “There is room here for everyone.” I think a lot about the people who choose peace not when it is easy, but precisely when reality gives them every reason to give up on it.

🌱 A new school year began this week in Israel and will begin next week in the West Bank. In Gaza, few schools remain that have not been reduced to rubble in the war — and they, too, will begin the school year as best they can. Every Israeli and Palestinian child has the right to learn. To get to school safely, meet friends, ask questions, dream, and build a future for themselves. We wish all Israeli and Palestinian students a year of learning, curiosity, and safety — and a year in which the right to education is taken for granted for everyone. 🌱 Photo from our Israeli-Palestinian Summer Camp: Danny Shoffman, Pendulum

This is the second day of our school bag distribution as part of the **Packing Hope** project. The Israeli-Palestinian Bereaved Families Forum continues its humanitarian campaign to distribute school bags to children in Bedouin communities and other vulnerable communities exposed to violence by settlers and the Israeli military. This is our way of expressing solidarity and support, and of bringing a smile to the children’s faces as they prepare for the start of the new school year. Our stop on Friday was the community of Al-Farisiya, where we held a special activity for the children. We spent time together, enjoying creative activities and games, and distributed school bags in an atmosphere that highlighted how important it is for every child to feel surrounded by care, love, and support. Friday’s campaign reached communities across the Jordan Valley — Mak-hul, Samra, Ein al-Hilweh, Al-Farisiya, Naba’ al-Ghazal, Ahmir, and Al-Hadidiya — as well as other areas that we will work to reach in the coming days. We will continue this campaign in an effort to reach as many communities and children as possible, because every smile we bring to a child’s face is another step toward a more humane and peaceful future.
