Early this morning, a 29-year-old off-duty @PhillyPolice officer was fatally wounded in a shooting in Southwest Philadelphia. A second individual was also shot in the incident.
Despite the heroic efforts of the medical staff at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, the officer succumbed to his wounds.
Alongside @PPDCommish Kevin Bethel and senior leaders of my administration, I spent time with the officer’s family at the hospital to convey our deep, profound sorrow. I will keep his family and loved ones in my constant prayers, along with the officers and staff of the 12th Police District.
An active homicide investigation is underway, led by Philadelphia police. If you know or saw anything involving this incident, please call 911 or (215) 686-TIPS.
Any loss to gun violence significantly impacts us all. We will never stop working to make Philadelphia a safer city.
