⭐️Peoria Sunday Morning League Alumni in Professional Ball ⭐️ The Peoria Sunday Morning League has once again been well represented throughout professional baseball in 2026, with former PSML players competing everywhere from affiliated Minor League Baseball to the Frontier and Atlantic Leagues. This year’s group also welcomed another former league MVP into the professional ranks following the 2026 MLB Draft. Mason McCoy (Miller Lite Falcons 2014, 2020), the 2014 Peoria Sunday Morning League Rookie of the Year, continues to put together an impressive professional career in the San Diego Padres organization. After appearing in the Major Leagues with San Diego in each of the previous two seasons, McCoy has spent 2026 with Triple-A El Paso and has put together one of his best offensive seasons as a professional. Through 128 games, McCoy is hitting .280 with 130 hits, 20 doubles, 10 home runs, 66 RBI and a career-high 36 stolen bases, while posting a .357 on-base percentage and .763 OPS. The longtime defensive standout remains on San Diego’s 40-man roster and provides the organization with experienced, versatile infield depth. Cole Cook (Pour Bros. Jacks 2016, 2020) returned to the Schaumburg Boomers in 2026 after earning his fourth consecutive Frontier League All-Star selection last season. The veteran left-hander has once again been a workhorse in Schaumburg’s rotation, going 7-7 with a 4.58 ERA and 98 strikeouts in 98.1 innings. One of Cook’s best performances of the summer came on July 9, when he fired a complete-game shutout against the Windy City ThunderBolts. Cook allowed just five hits and one walk while striking out seven in Schaumburg’s 7-0 victory. Jarrod Watkins (Crusens 2014, Country Club BBQ 2015) continued his long tenure with the Lake Erie Crushers in 2026. Now in his fifth season with the organization, Watkins has developed into one of the longest-tenured players in Crushers history and continues to provide veteran leadership and outstanding defense at shortstop. Watkins reached a major franchise milestone in August when he moved into second place all-time in games played in a Lake Erie Crushers uniform. The former Frontier League All-Star has become one of the most recognizable players of the current era in Lake Erie. Ethan Skender (Crusens 2014) joined the High Point Rockers of the Atlantic League for the 2026 season after spending last summer with the Gastonia Ghost Peppers. The Metamora native brought professional experience and versatility to High Point after previously spending three seasons in the San Diego Padres organization. Skender has once again shown his ability to play all over the diamond while contributing offensively. One of his hottest stretches of the summer came in July, when he put together a 13-game hitting streak, including his seventh home run of the season. Jake Curtis (Tin Lizard Titans 2023) continued his rapid climb through the Chicago White Sox organization in 2026. After beginning his professional career in Rookie Ball in 2025 and earning a promotion to Single-A Kannapolis, Curtis made the jump to High-A Winston-Salem this season and even received a brief assignment to Triple-A Charlotte. Curtis has put together an excellent season, going 5-5 with a 3.27 ERA, five saves and 78 strikeouts across 85.1 innings, while posting a 1.09 WHIP. He also played a major role in helping Winston-Salem reach the postseason for the first time since 2018. In the playoff-clinching victory on September 5, Curtis finished the game with three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit while striking out five. The Dash open the South Atlantic League playoffs tonight. Travis Lutz (Kohl’s Diamond Gallery 2020-2024), the 2021 Peoria Sunday Morning League MVP, became the newest PSML alumnus to enter affiliated professional baseball this summer when the Cleveland Guardians selected him in the 17th round with the 513th overall pick of the 2026 MLB Draft.

The Limestone product finished his collegiate career at Lamar University with an outstanding 2026 season, going 4-3 with a 3.26 ERA, 68 strikeouts and a 1.10 WHIP in 60.2 innings. Lutz was named the Southland Conference Newcomer of the Year, earned Second Team All-Southland honors and was named to the conference’s All-Tournament Team before hearing his name called by Cleveland in July. Just five years after being named the PSML’s Most Valuable Player, Lutz now begins the next chapter of his career in the Guardians organization. Jason Bollman (Pour Bros. Jacks 2020) made the jump to the Atlantic League in 2026, joining the Lancaster Stormers. The Peoria native has taken on a significant role in Lancaster’s starting rotation during his first season with the club. Bollman has been one of the league’s true workhorses, making 23 starts and throwing more than 120 innings this season while picking up nine victories and approaching 100 strikeouts. His ability to consistently take the ball has made him a regular part of Lancaster’s rotation throughout the summer. Andrew Pogue (Firehouse Expos 2021) also spent part of the 2026 season in affiliated professional baseball with the Detroit Tigers organization. Pogue pitched in Single-A Lakeland, racking up 27 strikeout in 34 IP while adding his name to the growing list of former Sunday Morning League players who have reached affiliated professional baseball. From former league award winners to longtime professionals and players just beginning their careers, the PSML continues to provide a place for some of Central Illinois’ best baseball talent to compete during their summers. We are proud to see these former Sunday Morning League players continue representing the Peoria baseball community at the professional level! ⚾️⭐️
