GMorgen (GAbend) 🖤
October has arrived, and although autumn brings increasingly shorter days, I hope the month ahead has a certain glow for you in ways big and small.
Viel Liebe 🖤🤍
A few thoughts on light, darkness, and distance – for those curious, some of the matters beneath the surface of my latest daily piece, Supposing the Distance:
The title is a fragment of a line by Edgar Allan Poe, from his 1848 piece, Eureka. A slightly larger bit of context:
"The only mode, therefore, in which, under such a state of affairs, we could comprehend the voids which our telescopes find in innumerable directions, would be by supposing the distance of the invisible background so immense that no ray from it has yet been able to reach us at all." – Poe
Side note – the manner in which I often tend to write seems like it'd perhaps be more fitting for a century or two ago. 😏
My thoughts floated between this universal scale and personal and conceptual ones. I tend to think and speak in metaphors, and I hope this piece might serve as a quite flexible or malleable one.
With our individual hopes, dreams, and intentions, maybe the light, so to say, just hasn't arrived quite yet, or it's just on the other side of a window, hurdle, or bit of time.
In a heavier context, if you are in a dark place, perhaps holding onto a small flickering light within you, please make the call, see someone, and talk to me or anyone close to you. Yes, I've spent some time in the darkness.
So, I could go on at length, but I essentially hope that the light and dark in this piece, what's close by and seemingly further away, within and beyond oneself, and so on, it might take a form that resonates with you in a way that you want or need.
Nochmals viel Liebe 🖤🤍
