The Great Escape—A snapping turtle ambushed an egret while it was hunting for fish, dragging the large wading bird's head underwater during a 20-minute tug-of-war at Huntley Meadows Wetlands, Virginia. Using its powerful jaws, the turtle tried to drown the egret but the bird fought back and freed itself from the jaws of death—under the watchful eyes of several other egrets that flew in to investigate.
