He was repeatedly put on notice. OutKast was BEYOND patient with him, if you ask me. This went on for over a year before a lawsuit was ever filed. The facts that people seem to leave out: June 2025: He receives a cease-and-desist. July 2025: He gives an interview where he himself acknowledges that people read Ovrkast as OutKast and confuse the two (I know his lawyer was pissed because this is literally the confusion at the center of the trademark dispute. He talks too much.) Then the attorneys negotiate. According to the lawsuit, they reach terms for him to transition to OVERKXST. His own attorney later asks OutKast for MORE TIME, requesting a July 15, 2026 deadline. OutKast agrees to the extension and sends the finalized agreement. July 13: two days before that deadline, he comes back asking to use different names they ALREADY declined. July 15 passes and he continues using OVRKAST. OutKast STILL doesn’t immediately sue him. They send another notice on August 5 and give him until August 11 to comply. According to the complaint, he doesn’t respond and continues using the name. The lawsuit isn’t filed until September 16. It has now been a year+ of back and forth. Then when the lawsuit becomes public, he wants to troll until he tweets: “I NEVER SIGNED any agreement. It was verbal…” He later deletes that post (again, he talks too much) and reposts his response without the part acknowledging the verbal agreement. So no, this wasn’t OutKast randomly deciding to financially crush some “young” artist. There was a year of warnings, negotiations, an extension his side requested, another opportunity to comply, and continued use of the disputed name before they finally sued. Now they’re asking the court for an injunction, profits tied to the alleged infringement, damages, legal fees and destruction of OVRKAST-branded materials. He fucked around and found out. 🤷🏽‍♀️
