It's mainly because human expertise and dexterity is still superior to machines and automation within biomedical wet labs. There are simply too many judgement calls, ranging from the mundane to true edge cases.
biology wet lab experiments should have been automated like a decade ago. they haven't been automated because PhD student labor is artificially low-priced, lowering the financial returns to automation

Be like Greg and utilize them! They want to help!
so my local USDA guy below was here at cello acres yestrday to walk the property. we're now applying for funding to improve the woods, establish wildlife habitat (blue bird and bat boxes), and develop more pasture for the sheep.
there's actually a surprising amount of help available for people trying to take better care of their land.
