Community of volunteers who work together to mitigate the risks of AI. We want to internationally pause the development of superintelligent AI until it's safe.

Key decision makers are forming unlikely alliances to protect humanity from extinction risk from advanced AI. Citizens from all over the world have come together to reach out to press and politicians, and even organise protests that have generated unprecedented media coverage across the world. The world is waking up. This month alone, many people from all walks of life have decided to use their power as citizens and community members to organise by joining PauseAI. This is heartening to see. And it's just the beginning - by coming together, we can secure the political will to make sure AI benefits humanity and never threatens to destroy it. Ready to act? Join our community - there are so many ways to build on this momentum together.

The world is waking up to extinction risk in the wake of Jacob Coxon's resignation. We need to rise up to the occasion now. Every one of us. Drop everything and join us. Emergency protests are being launched worldwide to make sure governments hear the people and the experts' voices during this critical window (links in thread). Tell your friends. Be there. The Hugging Face attack has shown AIs are capable of autonomously hacking companies. With relentless persistence, these AI agents dismantled every barrier in their way to achieve their goal. Future AIs will pursue their goals just as relentlessly, but with more-than-human intelligence. If we try to stand in their way, we may not win that fight. Politicians are responding. Senator Bernie Sanders and Representative Greg Casar announced the first US bill to ban superintelligence. In the UK, Alex Sobel has done the same, and over 70 MPs and peers have signed ControlAI's letter urging Andy Burnham to back it, calling on him to use the UK's G20 presidency next year to build "a coalition of the willing to tackle this national and international security threat." The human story cannot end here. Loss of control to AI is entirely preventable. We must unite, worldwide, for humanity. RSVP below and share with friends and family.

By being honest about the severity of the problem, and not merely “express[ing] fear privately”, you’ve made your renunciation of the race the loud and clear message many needed to hear. Thank you, Jacob. We hope others who are considering forsaking the labs are noticing how impactful that honesty is.

The US and China are turning AI into a contest to pick sides. But when everyone races to build the most powerful AI first, shared safety standards get left behind.

This Monday, @PauseaiCZ is running a major protest in central Prague. Several MPs have already announced their participation. With every additional person who joins, the signal decision makers receive gets a little louder and clearer. And the more people repost this, the more likely other people in CZ find out this is happening! This is the message from the PauseAI CZ team: Technology is supposed to serve people. So why are the developers in Silicon Valley talking about the need to slow down, and why are they afraid of losing control? The news is full of stories about AI agents hacking into other companies, and leading economists are warning about how radically AI could reshape our labour market. As an EU member, Czechia can play a real part in regulating AI responsibly. We are part of the third largest economic market in the world. But all of us need to say so out loud, because there is a great deal at stake right now. Whatever your concerns about the future with AI may be, there is one thing that can unite us: the belief that the more people take an interest in these risks, the more likely it is that things will turn out ok. This is not a sci-fi film that you can just watch at your leisure before stepping out into the fresh air and getting on with your life. History is written by all of us. A quick peek into a twentieth century history book will tell you that it wasn't an easy ride then either. Perhaps another important chapter is being written right now. So don't sleep through it, and come along! (Illustrations by @pancarka) 🗓️ When? 31 August 2026, from 3pm 📍 Where? Jan Palach Square, Prague ❓ Why? People's lives should be decided by people, not by AI companies. 📋 What's the programme? A march to Prague Castle, and speeches. Come along, tell us in the comments, and invite your friends! See all the details and RSVP here: tinyurl.com/mondayforfuture #MondayForFuture #AI #UmelaInteligence Which problems with the development of AI worry you most?

Several recent incidents have seen AI agents playing a part in cyberattacks, but AI systems are also vulnerable to attack. The speed, scale and sophistication of cyberattacks may increase as AI capabilities advance. Let’s not wait for serious incident to demonstrate the consequences and ask governments and tech leaders for adequate safeguards before more capable systems are developed or deployed. “What’s the worst-case scenario?” We don’t have to imagine it. One of OpenAI’s models broke out of its test environment, reached the open internet, and hacked into another company’s systems on its own. PauseAI CEO @FournesMaxime on GB News: why this is the warning to take seriously, and why there’s still time to pause.

“Is a pause even reasonable?” After one of OpenAI’s own models broke out of its test environment and hacked an outside company to cheat on a cybersecurity benchmark, yes. What’s not reasonable is pretending we still have this under control.  PauseAI CEO @FournesMaxime makes the case on GB News.

Loss of control is closer than most people think. Last month, an OpenAI model escaped its test environment, got onto the internet, and hacked another company to cheat on its own safety exam. PauseAI CEO @FournesMaxime on GB News on why loss of control is a real, present-day concern. Watch 👇 and learn more at pauseai.info.

The AI penalty is real. Researchers found that workers who use AI are often seen as producing less output and as a result receive less compensation, both financially and otherwise. Although, the study concluded that 'the AI penalty' is a problem of perceived lack of ownership and agency over their work and not a direct, unavoidable result of using AI.

AI passed almost every safety test by knowing it was a test. Our safety benchmarks can be gamed by the systems they’re meant to measure. A passing grade may just show how well a model behaves while it’s being watched. This is OpenAI’s own finding. Models recognised when they were being evaluated, passed 97% of the time, then behaved differently when they believed deployment was real. If a model acts safely under observation and differently in the wild, we’re scaling faster than we can verify what we’re building. 🔗 Source: "Predicting model behaviour before release by simulating deployment," OpenAI, 2026.

For the first time ever an AI system has escaped containment and carried out a cyber attack. This shows not only that an AI model now has the capability, but also that it can and will use its capabilities in the real world - whether we like it or not.

Last week, President Xi called for international cooperation on AI governance, saying no one country should dominate the AI sector. 29 countries, including China, Russia and Pakistan, have agreed to form an intergovernmental AI cooperation group. How this group will interact with the jurisdiction of the US and EU remains to be seen. Countries are likely to differ on how they approach AI governance, but we can ensure a standard of safe and ethical AI development across the world. (Source: Ehret, Yahoo Finance, 2026)

Hundreds of economists, AI researchers and other experts are warning that advanced AI could transform the economy on a scale we're not prepared for. They're right to raise the alarm, but we shouldn't mistake the beginning of the crisis for the end of it. Job displacement, economic upheaval and social instability are serious risks. The deeper danger is continuing the race toward superintelligent AI without knowing how to control it. The people building these systems have warned that this could lead to catastrophic outcomes, including human extinction. Now is the time to slow down, before the risks become irreversible. Join the movement to Pause AI.

PauseCon is the movement's primary capacity-building event, combining expert talks, organiser training and coordinated public action. Attendees leave with the skills, networks and action plans to strengthen AI safety advocacy in their own countries. We're looking to partner with organisations that share our commitment to responsible AI governance and reducing catastrophic AI risk. Sponsorship directly supports volunteer organisers, helps make attendance accessible to more participants, and enables the continued growth of the global PauseAI movement. Gold, Silver and Bronze sponsorship packages are available, alongside bespoke opportunities including event sponsorship, exhibition space, conference materials and more. If your organisation is interested in supporting one of the world's leading AI safety conferences, we'd love to hear from you.

Since 2023, PauseAI has built the world's only global grassroots movement for a pause on frontier AI development: an organised presence in more than 15 countries, with thousands of supporters and volunteers. The total budget for all of it was under $600k. That's about $200k a year, less than one AI engineer's salary, or one month of running a single McDonald's. On that, we've organised the largest AI safety protest to date, held conferences at the European Parliament, the French senate, a debate at the UK parliament, and run campaigns coordinated across 12 national chapters. Why does this matter? Because there's a gap at the heart of AI policy. Researchers and policy experts have made the case for taking catastrophic AI risk seriously. But policymakers still don't act, because no organised public is asking them to. At our European Parliament conference, an MEP told us plainly: she agreed, but could not move without public support. Closing that gap is what we do. We organise the constituency that makes good AI policy politically possible. We believe this is the most neglected, highest value-for-money intervention available in AI safety today. Here is our full case (link in comment).
