Excited to share vmi-rs - a batteries-included, easy-to-use and fast framework for Virtual Machine Introspection in Rust! Built from scratch. Optimistically aiming to address some long-standing issues in the VMI space. github.com/vmi-rs/vmi 🧵

I had many reasons I liked and did participate in open-source and all of the reasons pretty much flopped. For better or worse.

Most recent macOS 27 running in KVM/qemu. On non-Apple hardware (DGX Spark in this case). KVM wasn't patched at all.

I gradually care less and less what tech stack someone uses. But if I see you wear Arcteryx, Imma judge u.

Clear protein and creatine tablets are the best thing that I've discovered this year. What turned my stomach became a really pleasant ritual I look forward to.

Someone renting my apartment isn't responding to emails and texts for weeks. Yet I see them active on github. Would it be too much if I opened a PR?

END THE OPPRESSION OF BAD UX! No reverse engineer shall dig through Options / General / OK to show opcode bytes. Nor again for stack deltas. Nor a third time because graph view keeps its own settings. Ctrl+Shift+B. Ctrl+Shift+S. ¡VIVA LA REVOLUCIÓN! github.com/milankovo/listing…

I'm pretty much convinced that extensively (ab)using Copilot/GPT can eventually degrade one's ability to think on their own. Balancing the usage will be crucial to stay sharp. I wonder if we'll witness an "addiction epidemic" similar to that of socmedia.

Are interview processes catching up with current trends or do they still mostly contain live coding? I'm seeing lots of "I didn't write a single line of code in X months" and I can't imagine going through live coding after that.

I thought the watermarking was already there for a long time, with all the honest load-bearing smoking guns, and you're absolutely rights.

If we don't see a completely new major OS on the market in the next 10 years (one that's not based on any existing kernel), I'll be really sad.

Now that reasoning is outsourced, we can finally think about what's truly important. Our feelings.

The analogy would work if your employer allowed you to use the compiler 200 times a month, you weren't able to run it on a consumer hardware and it had outage once in a while.
Before C, someone writing assembly would say "hand-writing" assembly is fun. Before Java someone would say manually allocating memory in C is fun. Just accept that coding has been abstracted and it will not come back, the minimum building block now is architecture components.

> Many people are there for money I've yet to meet a person who's in programming for money. I know people who tried, but everyone bailed. And, if you're after money, why choose programming, when there's plenty of other fields that pay more with far lower entry barrier.
> large % of programmers don’t actually like computers. True. Many people are there for money > I don’t get it, at ALL. Don’t you *LIKE* understanding the magic of the machine? Some of us still do but doesnt mean you have to do all the time "hand"-programming

Was there any reason MS decided not to ship win32k types in PDBs after the driver split? Or they just felt like it?

Gonna start a new blog series where I document small Windows features/changes/techniques that I couldn't find documented anywhere. I have a few ideas already but is there anything you'd like me to write about?

Is it possible to get a virtual machine to halt at a precise instruction count? Answering this question took some time, but I think the answer is yes (with minimal single stepping).
Replying to @bitcoinbrink
Niklas (@dergoegge) outlines an approach and a solution, bedrock, for this problem of determinism. He focuses on the challenge of emulating time and pausing a VM at an exact instruction count, something CPUs aren't designed to do. brink.dev/blog/2026/06/25/be…

Why did ntdll!RtlRestoreContext start to call NtContinue somewhere around Win10, instead of using simple iret? I suspect it has something to do with security (XFG, possibly?), though it would be nice to have it confirmed from someone who knows more about it.
