Learnt very quickly that my ‘common’ accent marked me out, especially working around BBC Radio 3 and 4.
I’ve been very self conscious of it and only recently learning to be proud of who I am.

Our research has found that a hierarchy of accent prestige remains in Britain 🗣️
Received Pronunciation is considered the most prestigious, while accents associated with industrial cities and ethnic minority accents are ranked lowest.
