seven months ago i quit crypto. i'd been in the industry for almost a full decade. and i'm ashamed to admit it took me this long to notice something about the game i was playing. there are two kinds of games: games with memory and games without. in a game with memory, what you did yesterday makes today easier. in a game without, every day starts from zero. crypto is a game without memory. i know because measuring that was my job. i started this account at the bottom of the last bear market with zero followers and grew it to 100k+ in under two years. i wrote educational pieces and quite a few scam investigations that about 150 million people read. by any normal measure it worked. the money was good, and i made connections i could never have made any other way. but investigating scams teaches you something you can't unlearn. exposing a scammer has no effect. none. the people i exposed came back months later with new names and bigger scams. every market remembers. stocks remember enron; banks remember 2008. crypto is the exception. it forgets everything. it runs on attention, and attention resets every morning. the scammers were selling it. the influencers were selling it. i was selling it too. that's what a game without memory does. nothing bad that happens to you there is permanent, and nothing good you build there is either. most of what crypto produces is sh*t for exactly that reason (with a few exceptions ofc). so in december i cancelled six figures of booked promos, closed my company, and quit. (the r3ach guys unwound every deal without a single complaint. in a market with no memory, i'd like that remembered, GOATs.) people assumed i'd be back in a month. instead i spent the last half a year building an app. i won't say what it is yet, except that it isn't crypto. there's no token. it's a product to improve life of ordinary people, and it's the best thing i've ever made. a game with memory, finally. i'm posting this because i'm hiring, and i want to fill them from ct. ct is what you get when you remove credentials from a labor market: the people who rise have nothing going for them except output. that's exactly who i want. two roles to start: a creator manager and a creative strategist. part time, remote, anonymous is fine, and i pay properly. full job listings in the next post. dms open. with love, Pix.

first $1k revenue achieved time to scale this baby up p.s. finally cracked the upper funnel, half of these trials were started in the last 12h
first revenue achieved started marketing this week and trials began converting today $25 mrr is obviously nothing, but 0 to not 0 is arguably the hardest part let’s see how much I can grow this by end of the month and #Shipaton

wtf, i just learned that if you got the latest model of iphone some apps will charge you more a bunch of apps optimise their paywall pretty much like airlines do, so if you're on an iphone 11 you might see one price, and if you're on a 17 pro they'll charge you more for the exact same subscription and it's actually not against apple rules, (it's just like any other a/b testing apparently). in the eu you're supposed to tell people when their price was “personalised”, but i've never once seen an app do it obviously clever, “game is game” and all that, but idk i can’t be the only one who feels like it’s scummy??

i just spent 50 hours building the part of my app people will swipe through in under a minute finished it today and realised my onboarding has more unique screens than the actual app. and the app is pretty rich in features. i've looked at over 500 onboardings by now and talked to founders doing 500k+ mrr. one of the few things all of them agree on is that onboarding is close to half of how successful your app ends up being. or really, it's like content. no matter how good the video is, if the thumbnail and the title suck, you get a fraction of the views you could've had. and the part that keeps getting me: half the questions the best apps ask you don't change the product at all. they're there so the thing feels like yours by the time you land on the paywall. diabolical if you ask me as a consumer, but those are the rules of the game i'll post my numbers once it's live can’t wait to A/B test the heck out of it

calling my shot: i'm winning a trophy at revenuecat's shipaton this year. the app is finally in its finishing stages. gtm and marketing strategy fully mapped. the plan is to launch inside the shipaton window and hopefully find pmf right there, in public. been chatting with a lot of app founders these past couple of weeks, and the community has been super receptive so far. absolutely love it. time to see how good of a builder i actually am. also on the hunt for people cracked at: - aso - seo - ai search - pinterest ads if that's you, dms are open, and i'm very willing to pay for your time/service and if you're just in the app space and wanna hop on a call, lmk. always happy to chat.

how i felt tweeting this:
i hate to say it, but hr people are the backbone of society. because what do you mean i have to go through 200 resumes, reply to every single one of you, follow up, set up calls, and do it all "in a timely manner"?? i even publicly promised to get back to everyone. past me was very brave. to every hr person i ever rolled my eyes at: i am sorry. p.s. if you still haven't got the reply, i swear i'll get to you (eventually)

i'm scared in about a month, i'm launching an app. i've spent seven months building it in silence, and i truly believe it can improve the life of hopefully millions of people. i've also never done anything like this in my life. day 1 of building in public i guess honest thing first: starting over in a field where you have zero experience is scary. i spent almost a decade in crypto. i knew every corner of that game. in this one i knew nothing. not how apps make money, not what a paywall should look like, not why people come back. blank page, every day. what helped more than anything: listening to people who've already walked it. easily over 300 hours of founder interviews so far, mostly the revenuecat and superwall podcasts (s/o @JosephKChoi and @drbarnard, absolute GOATs). one or two episodes, every single day, for months. it's the closest thing to borrowed experience that exists. half of what i know about this business came from strangers talking into microphones. thank you, genuinely. my biggest learning so far: the product is maybe a third of the work. the rest is a machine most people never see. onboarding, paywall, app store screenshots, aso, notifications, streaks. a dozen levers that decide whether anyone ever finds the thing, tries it, pays for it, comes back. nobody told me that, so i'll be telling you. that's what this series is: one lever at a time, what i try, what the numbers say. and i'm not doing this alone anymore. there are people now working extremely hard to bring the app's content to life. more on them soon. this is not me teaching. i'm not qualified to teach. it's me learning in public, and you're welcome to tag along. the app stays unnamed for now, but will share more soon if you're starting something you have no experience in too, tag along. it's less scary with company. with love, Pix.
