Somaliland’s Minister of Youth & Sports, #Hon-Ahmed-Yasin Mohamed, today closed a girls’ school sports tournament in Hargeisa. Faadumo Biixi Primary/Intermediate School won the competition. The programme was implemented by @Ubah Inspire with @PlanInt_Som funded by the @EU.

At Garasley First Response Center (FRC) in Bardhere District, children came together through their school football club to compete, play and connect with their peers. Garasley is one of 10 schools supported through the #EiE Project, with each school having a football club that creates opportunities for children to develop teamwork, confidence, social interaction and psychosocial wellbeing alongside their education. Because learning is also about creating safe spaces to play, connect and grow. Hibak recalls a powerful conversation with a relative convinced that early marriage keeps girls safe. Instead of arguing, she spoke calmly about the value of education, the dangers of early pregnancy, and the opportunities that come from waiting.
