My daughter has a large hemanginoma on her forehead from birth, she's almost 3 now. If I made 30% less money the surgery would be free. For us though, the children hospital quoted us $26,000 for a 45 minute surgery
It was fine before but she's old enough now to ask why she has it, why kids poke it and why she can't "cut it off"
We're incredibly greatful theres no real health issue and it's only cosmetic (you can't frequent a children's hospital and not cry for other parents and what they're dealing with)
But it sucks knowing the cosmetic "elective" surgery is being held up solely because I made too much money for "free healthcare" yet not enough that we can throw down $26k willy nilly
Regardless the surgery is scheduled
When you have 3 kids and you’re in that upper 30-40% you literally have to start triaging things.
You want your kids to not be mouth breathers so you have to send them to the myofunctional dentist, which doesn’t take insurance, which isn’t an issue for the rich parents, but it is for you, so you’re trying to figure out which of your kids has it the worst before you send them in for an assessment ($300) followed by a take home sleep study ($500), then a 3d head jaw scan ($700) followed by the actual therapy and interventions they’ll try to sell you ($??????) and you’re doing this so that your kids won’t be relegated to the permanent ugly class and will have better long term health outcomes in a world where doctors are mostly retards and apathetic about your health at best.
