Be on the lookout for a white hawk. Not an owl or an eagle. Saw it a couple miles north of Scribner yesterday.👀🦅

Maybe we should move the Statue of Liberty. That beacon for the world’s poor and downtrodden. I doubt new people see opportunity in its current Northeast location. Everything there is settled, controlled and set in stone. The Midwest, on the other hand, is in a dynamic situation, with great numbers of people moving from place to place. Shopping hours away weekly for basic essentials, or traveling from one house to another. Eventually a tourist destination for international visitors, further into the future.🗽 #Midwest #ruraltourism

One Midwestern team is in, with another battling for the other spot in the World Series.⚾️ #Midwest #Conservation

Nothing compares to a breezy night on the farm, hearing the varying wind through the trees. A sound very similar to a night spent on a ship at sea as a storm moves through.🛳️

If you’re noticing trends concerning Midwest population, capital flow and infrastructure over the last 50 years, then to now, you have to assume those trends will continue. Now advance 175 years to 2201, and take a look at what the Midwest looks like compared to other regions of the country in the 23rd century. #ruraltourism #project2201 #Midwest

Regions to watch: South, Southeast, Mid-South, Mid-Atlantic, Rockies and Northwest. Yesterday’s news: West, Southwest and Northeast. Taking on water: Midwest. #Conservation #project2201

What if all the Midwest ag colleges at the major universities were singularly tasked with preventing or reversing the outmigration of the rural Midwest to other regions of the country? As a group, not separate and “competing” with each other for checkoff research dollars.🛳️

The major universities in the 12 state Midwest should combine their ag colleges into one large entity. Use technology and modern communication to work together and collaborate on research. It’s all just basic commodity production anyway.🌽🫘🌾🐓🐖🐄🥛🦃 #Conservation #Midwest

Measured this tree trunk yesterday. It had part of it break this year. They don’t last forever.🌳

Count the tourist attractions in your local area. Gas stations, coffee shops, museums, hotels, recreation opportunities, shopping, unique stops like landmarks, etc. Do rural tourists out of the big cities know about them? Get the word out!🛳️ #ruralrourism #Conservation

Midwest cities, a caution. Do not assume your growth will continue forever. 3-4 months of winter will only attract a certain amount of new people. The big winners of urbanization will be in the South, Southeast, Mid-South, Rockies, Mid-Atlantic and a little to the Northwest, West and Southwest. #project2201 #Midwest

Key point here if you’re planning a rural tour soon.🚙🚚🚜
Let’s discuss a bit of gravel road driving etiquette. Most gravel roads have 3 tracks, when you meet someone you both have to move over because you both can’t drive on the center track. 🤨

Owners of property, be it land on farms or small acre plots with a dwelling, there is something special about it. In fact, it’s even widely held among praying people that Providence Himself adds a blessing on the landed gentry that possess these places.🏡🛳️ #Midwest #ruraltourism #Conservation

The veil has been lifted on the rural Midwest. The struggle is real now, it’s not just economic theory and projections. All twelve states need to band together to build more rural tourism, convince land owners to enact more conservation and encourage the current Midwest government officials to do better by their constituents.🛳️ #ruraltourism #Midwest

If you have a lot of extra food, leftovers or buy in large quantities, you put some of it in the deep freeze, save it for later. That’s what land conservation is, too. If the corn and bean prices are below breakeven, put some land in the freezer. Prairie strips, grass waterways, wetland set aside, pivot corners, you get the idea. #Midwest #Conservation #ruraltourism

Good segment on Market to Market concerning the movement of people into and out of the Midwest. What areas are seeing some growth, what areas are contracting somewhat. #Markettomarket #pbs #project2201 #Midwest
