One of The Smiths’ most beloved songs was never released as a UK single during the band’s lifetime. “There Is a Light That Never Goes Out” appeared on their 1986 masterpiece The Queen Is Dead, pairing Morrissey’s romantic fatalism with Johnny Marr’s sweeping arrangement. It eventually received a UK single release in 1992, years after the band split. On The Tube in 1986, The Smiths performed it during their final year together.
