Do you know what "shelter in place" means?
During some hazardous material spills, you may be safer staying indoors than evacuating. Go inside, close doors and windows, turn off ventilation systems, and stay tuned to local radio or TV for updates.

When was the last time you checked your emergency kit or grab-and-go bag?
Make it a habit to review and restock your supplies twice a year. Replace expired food, water, medications and batteries, and update important documents.

Phones depend on cell networks or Internet access. During emergencies, those services may be disrupted.
A radio can help you stay informed when Internet, TV or cell services aren't available.

An emergency can make it harder to reach the people you care about.
Create an emergency contact list, include an out-of-area contact and make sure everyone has a copy. During an emergency, text first since texts are more likely to get through.
