I’ve been watching the Sun spin…this time-lapse catches it turn over 10 days, carrying huge sunspots along with it! Our star actually rotates once about every 25 Earth days at its equator. (Never look at the Sun directly.) #sun #sunspots #solar #rotation #safetyfirst

I came across a witch’s broom last night! Floating in the constellation of Cygnus, it’s part of all that remains of what was once a star 20 times the mass of the Sun. The star exploded about 8,000 years ago. The green hues are from glowing oxygen gas. #supernova #stardust

I captured this lovely view last night in Cygnus of the remains of a massive star that exploded (as a supernova) several 1000 years ago. The full span of the remnant covers an area of sky 6 times larger than that covered by the full Moon. #easternveilnebula #supernova #stardust

I caught an owl last night! We’re seeing the dying phases of a Sun-like star. Hot gases have been shed as the star runs out of nuclear fuel. The Owl nebula spans about 2,000 times the Earth to Neptute distance. The lovely green hues are due to glowing oxygen gas. #planetarynebula
