Forgive us for this Astros-heavy week in the COTD series, but today's conclusion to the 2026 MLB regular season capped off a uniquely historic campaign for Houston. The AL West champions for the eighth time in the past ten years, the Astros became the first team in major league history to win their division with a .500 record, finishing at an even 81-81. No team had ever made the playoffs without a winning record before today ☄️
Orbit was first introduced to fans in 1990, but then was replaced from 2000-2012 by Junction Jack, before reclaiming the title of sole Astros mascot ahead of the 2013 season

For a while now I think I've been considered one of the highest out there on Sal Stewart, who rose to become my #1 ranked 3rd base prospect before making his debut. Stewart has possessed excellent plate discipline since entering the league; the key to his success always has been whether or not he could tap into more power.
We finally saw that take place in 2025 as Stewart set a career high slugging percentage in the minor leagues before blasting 5 home runs upon promotion to the big leagues in his his 58 plate appearances. The only question here is if Stewart is sacrificing his excellent on base skills to look for more hittable pitches.
I really like this profile overall, and can't wait to see Stewart's rookie campaign after his strong small debut! 💪

One of the most engaging side plots to this weekend's finale of the 2026 MLB season has emerged over the past few days, as Verlander and long-time rival Max Scherzer are each pushing to pitch. Both are candidates to hang up their spikes after this season concludes (though only Verlander has actually confirmed that he plans to retire), and bragging rights are at stake. JK currently has 5,554 career strikeouts to his name, but Mad Max is in his rearview mirror at 5,550, and could close the gap with a strong final outing
No matter who wraps up their career with more K's, both Verlander and Scherzer will go down in history as arguably the defining right-handed starters of their generation, having won six Cy Young awards and four World Series titles between the two of them

Part of the 2020 class for the MLB Hall of Fame, Walker was a true five-tool superstar at his peak in the late 90's. After hitting 49 home runs, stealing 33 bases, and winning both a Gold Glove and the National League MVP award in 1997, Walker then slashed an unbelievable .379/.458/.710 in 1999, leading the big leagues in all three metrics.
Walker also remains the only person from Maple Ridge High School (in British Columbia, Canada) to make the majors 🇨🇦
