People keep posting this screenshot of me, so I'll respond. • My wife Ashley has been public about her testimony years before this post. I would never write this publicly without her approval. • Ashley is so changed by the gospel, that's she'll gladly share of what her life was before Christ, what it is now, and how God can save anyone. After all, Paul did this too, and he didn't withhold details about his past life of sin (Acts 26:1-29), so sharing our lives before and after Christ on occassion is entirely biblical. • I can count the number of times I've shared my wife's story publicly on one hand. I share it when I discern it "is good for building up someone in need, so that it gives grace to those who hear" (Eph. 4:29). It'd definitely be concerning if I frequently leveraged her story for numbers. God forbid. • The context of my below screenshotted post was a reply to a semi-viral post that was dividing Christians: "Better to marry a former OF model who has come to know the depths of her sin and the mercy of the Lord, than an unkissed virgin with a haughty look and a proud heart." My response: "My wife was a camgirl, among many other things, before Christ. August 15, we celebrate five wonderful, gospel-centered, Christ-focused years of marriage. “Her many sins have been forgiven; that’s why she loved much.” (Luke 7:47)". I was grieved of the unbiblical perspective many were having, and wanted to help guide people toward the biblical understanding that marrying a godly spouse is of the utmost importance; marrying a virgin is not more important (1 Cor. 7:39). • I'm not a feminist, a liberal, a simp, or an egalitarian. These are all unbiblical and real problems, and I'm grateful for others who speak against them. I've written many times about the biblical mandate for husbands to take responsibility in their homes as the head of their wives and children, for men to man up and be more bold, and for wives to submit in everything to their husbands (Eph. 5:24). I just see all too often that these voices frequently lack the gospel and lack a balance in their teachings by rarely, if at all, equally admonishing men to tenderly love their wives, be defined by gentleness (Gal. 5:22-23), and dwell with her in an understanding way, which is of equal importance (1 Pet. 3:7). • I believe people love to mock me with this screenshot when red-pill masculinity affects their thinking more than the gospel does. To the unredeemed mind, it's usually unfathomable that one would share of their spouse's past sexual immorality, or even of their own many past sins. And don't get me wrong: sin is serious. Sexual immorality and other sins are devastating, and sometimes sin's consequences can even be lifelong in God's good plan. But when the gospel affects our thinking and our hearts primarily, it changes everything. You're able to look at people through the lens of compassion, gentleness, and understanding. The cross frees us to think biblically, to walk in Scripture-centered balance, to treat sin seriously, lead our wives well, and to love our family and others best, since marriage is, after all, a picture of the gospel (Eph. 5:32).
