We had less time to talk than there were topics we all are interested in, but we could see from everyone’s words, actions, and views a genuine desire to work together on important things that strengthen the protection of people’s lives and freedom. The more we work together, the more reliable our solutions will be and the more opportunities we will have to achieve a just peace. Thank you all for your support!

@PaulDMiller2 will be succeeding me as managing editor of @ProvMagazine, though I will stay on as associate editor as I turn my attention to grad school applications in the hopes of writing a thesis on St Augustine and foreign policy. I’ll write a long reflection on the nearly 4 years I spent as the editor of Providence sometime soon, but for the moment, if I have ever worked with you or you have ever read anything published between 2023 and now in Providence, it has been an honor to be part of what I genuinely consider to be very important conversations on the intersection of Christian ethics, national security, and international affairs.

My latest piece in Providence: A Journal of Christianity & American Foreign Policy. Until the latest spats over tariffs, Americans usually pay little (or none) attention to Canada. However, its latest dispute over to what degree military chaplains (who are civil servants) can affirm their own religion in public settings raises issues that permeate American public life.
I argue that the Canadian government is tending to enforce secularism but admit that the issues are difficult.
"It is a mistake to think that when, in your teaching or speaking, if you ignore something then you are then saying nothing about it. On the contrary, you are teaching that it is to be ignored. And you do this not openly and explicitly so that it may be recognized, questioned and challenged, but quietly and surreptitiously so that it might remain unquestioned. Ignoring something is a powerful teaching that it is to be ignored."
