I'll be flying solo up in the press box for @HammerAndRails as @BoilerFootball takes on #3 @NDFootball in the Battle for the Shillelagh. Irish lead the all time series 59-26-2 with Purdue's last victory coming in 2007.

@BoilerFootball has an explosive offense led by Ryan Browne, Fame Ijeboi, and a bevy of WR's but the defense will be immediately on the hot seat against ND.

Purdue wins the toss and elects to receive, likely a response to the defense Purdue has played the last two weeks. My guess is that Kane gets this week as a bit of a pass but if the defense is bad next week against Minnesota, the calls for him to step down will get loud.

Well, the offense doesn't start as promising as they did last week as Browne takes a 9 yard sack on first down as the Boilers tried to go play action and stretch the field.

Purdue will go 3 and out on their first offensive possession. Not an ideal start for a Purdue team that needs to score points to stay in most games this season with how the defense has performed.

Welp, Purdue gets a stop on their first defensive possession.... First time against an FBS opponent this season that the Boilers haven't allowed a TD on their first defensive possession.

Purdue has to stay out of 3rd and long situations as much as possible today. First opportunity in a 3rd and short situation where the running game has to be able to convert with Ijeboi. Ijeboi and the OL grab 3 yards to push the ball to their 44 yard line for a first down

Purdue calls for a fake punt but comes up short. Understand the call but pinning ND back early on would likely be a better call.

Purdue allows #14 Gilbert to run freely up the seam for a 27 yard touchdown. That's been a common thread for this Kevin Kane led defense, not only this year, but covering his previous two seasons as well.

Yes, there is likely some player skill deficiencies Purdue is dealing with on defense but the way WR's are constantly wide open is either a scheme or call issue...and if it isn't, it is coaching that can't get players in the right positions to make plays

Gilbert again wide open across the middle as he catches and runs for a 56 yard gain. ND knew Purdue was going to blitz a LB & brought Gilbert across the field into that vacated space. Opposing OC's reading Kane like an open book.

That's now the 3rd sack that Browne has taken already today. Early in the 2Q and this game looks to be completely over if the defense can't get a stop on this upcoming possession.

Replying to @BoilerFootball
Kane getting utterly out schemed again this week. Yes, it's ND and they are on the short list of teams who can win a national championship...but this is just embarrassing how open receivers are down the middle of the field. Same thing happened against Indiana St.

Sometimes the best decision an AD can make is telling your HC no. Bobinski should have simply told Odom no when he came to him with Kevin Kane as a potential hire, even if he felt he was the best candidate.

Bradford simply needs to turn his head around and he isn't flagged for PI there. Instead, ND gets the ball first and goal at the 3 yard line.

5:47 2Q @BoilerFootball: 0 Notre Dame: 21 Boilers are getting trounced as the Irish out pace them 224-86 in total yards. Boilers can't consistently make the plays necessary to hang with the Irish.

That type of bounce out run for Ijeboi would work against most teams but not this ND defense full of players that'll be working on Sundays and Mondays shortly. Has got to simply get what he can get at times.

ND sacks Browne again and he fumbles the ball. Former Boiler target Drayk Bowen scoops and scores to push the score to 28-0 with 4:15 left in the half.

Notre Dame has the ball on the Purdue 49 with 1:48 left. If this first half tells us anything, it is that ND will likely go up 35-0 here before the end of the half.

HALFTIME @BoilerFootball: 0 @NDFootball: 35 ND outgains Purdue 273-90 & goes only 4-10 on 3rd down. ND has had the ball for only 11:41 & has scored 35 points. Unlike HS football here in Indiana, being up 35 points doesn't get you a running clock...unfortunately

The Purdue defense starts the 2H with an interception by Charles Correra. Listen, this game isn't going to be won but they can certainly build something heading into winnable games moving forward.

The one bright spot so far today is freshman kicker Jacobo Lozano as he nails a career long 47 yard field goal. He has been a wonderful replacement for Spencer Porath who jumped to ND (in what was a bit of a shady move) in the offseason.

End 3Q @BoilerFootball: 3 ND: 35 Notre Dame is driving and has the ball on the Purdue 23 with a 3rd and 1. ND largely slept walked in that 3Q and it is hard to argue why.

ND scores on a relatively easy mesh concept that allows Carr to find his TE open and he walks in untouched. Irish have expanded their lead to 42-3 and that now makes the last three games in the series 164-40 (54.7-13.3)

Evans Chuba in at QB for the Boilers but his first snap is called back due to a holding call on the Boilers. Purdue continues to be one of the most penalized teams in the country with 6 more today.

Drennan just absolutely nuked that punt for 78 yards. Would make @PatMcAfeeShow proud with that missle.

Jett Goldsberry comes down and lays the hammer on that tackle. Impressive piece of work from the true freshman
