Could this be an unfinished rock-cut structure? Throughout ancient Anatolia, people carved tombs, chambers, façades, and other structures directly into natural rock formations, sometimes leaving unfinished examples behind. One example is Termessos, an ancient mountain city in the Taurus Mountains of southwestern Turkey, about 30 km northwest of modern Antalya and roughly 1,000 m above sea level. According to Strabo, the inhabitants of Termessos called themselves the Solymi, a Pisidian people. Look above the dark opening: the brow ridge, the closed eye, the long face melting down into the rock. That isn't a doorway carving.
