The most powerful technologies ever invented need real rules written before they are loose, not after the damage is done. Brain-computer interfaces, advanced AI, quantum computing, medical nanotechnology, genetic editing. Any of these can end privacy, break free will, or reshape the species itself. They cannot be governed by the same captured agencies that failed every smaller test. They need a framework built for the stakes, written in the open, that no single company and no single government can own or quietly rewrite. This is the third pillar of the Internet Bill of Rights, the movement's answer to exactly this problem. We test a new drug for years before it can reach you. We are letting technologies far more powerful than any drug arrive with less oversight than a supplement.

Three world-changing technologies are arriving at once, artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and brain-computer interfaces, and each of them can free us or cage us depending on who holds it and what rules bind it. AI can cure disease and run an economy, or run the most total surveillance state ever imagined. Quantum can secure our systems, or crack every protection we have overnight. A brain interface can give a paralyzed person back their body, or give whoever controls it a direct line into your attention, your emotions, and eventually your choices. There is no version of these technologies that is simply safe. There is only the version with guardrails and the version without. And the version without defaults to whoever has the most power taking the most control.

We are about to put the power of a god into the hands of man, and we are doing it with almost no rules. Three technologies are arriving at once: 1.) Artificial intelligence that can out-think us across more and more of what matters. 2.) Quantum computing that can break the encryption protecting every secret, every account, and every private message on earth. 3.) Brain-computer interfaces that read, and eventually write to, the human mind directly. Any one of these would reshape civilization. All three landing in the same decade is the largest concentration of raw power in human history, and right now it is being built by a handful of companies and governments with almost no one deciding what should and should not be allowed.

The Internet Bill of Rights has a third pillar, and it is the one that matters most for what is coming. The fight over who controls information is about to collide with a wave of technology powerful enough to make every argument so far look small. The same captured system that wants to censor a post is about to get its hands on tools that reach directly into how you think. Set the rules for that before it arrives, or the censorship we are fighting today will look quaint by comparison.

The Internet Bill of Rights, and it is the center of everything our movement stands for. Two of its pillars do the heavy lifting: First, the public square becomes a utility that cannot cut you off for your opinions, which kills the censorship problem at the root. Second, your data becomes your property. Right now these companies harvest your whole life for free and sell it back to whoever wants to shape or watch you. Make your data yours by law and they have to license it from you, which makes mass surveillance prohibitively expensive, and turns the value you already created into income, a passive stream on the order of a thousand dollars a month.

When a handful of private companies control the information everyone depends on to take part in society, the fix comes from an old and simple principle. Once something becomes essential to public life, it stops being a private toy and becomes a public utility, bound by public rules. We did this with the roads, the power grid, and the phone lines, because life stopped being possible without them. The digital public square crossed that same line years ago. You cannot work, learn, organize, or reach your own country without it. So it has to be governed as what it now is, with rules no private owner and no foreign interest can override. It cannot cut you off for your opinions, and no government or lobby can secretly reach in to silence you through it.

We can throw out every incumbent in Washington and the machinery that controls our information stays exactly as captured, because it is not on the ballot. The platforms that decide what we see, the pressure networks that decide what gets removed, the surveillance that decides what is safe to say, none of it changes when the government does. It sits in private hands, shaped by whoever has the money and the leverage to lean on it. So the country keeps electing new people to fix things and keeps discovering that the new people are handed the same managed version of reality as the old ones.

The deepest thing captured in this country sits underneath the money, the military, and the foreign policy. It is the channel where you find out what is true and say what you think. Capture that, and you never have to win any single fight, because you shape what people believe before the fight even starts.

Every censorship rule and surveillance program built to protect one narrative becomes a permanent tool that works on any narrative, because the machinery does not care who built it. Build the power to silence critics of a foreign war today, and that same power sits waiting for whoever holds office next, ready to point at whatever they choose. The apparatus outlives the excuse that created it. So the real fight is bigger than any one war, or any one lobby, or any one administration. It is about whether a permanent machine for controlling what Americans can know and say gets built at all.

The campaign to silence criticism of that one foreign government is failing, faster than anything like it has failed before. Support for it among Americans, especially people under thirty, is collapsing at a speed the polling has no precedent for. The censorship is advertising that the consensus now has to be enforced, which tells everyone it is already gone. You cannot censor your way back to a story people have stopped believing. Every takedown and every smear of a critic now produces ten more. The harder they squeeze the information space, the more obvious it becomes that they have lost the argument on the merits.

A lot of the censorship spreading online right now traces back to one well-funded lobby, and it does its work in the open. For years it has pushed to get criticism of one foreign government reclassified as hate speech, and to get that redefinition written into platform rules, campus codes, and increasingly into law. The goal is simple. Make it socially and professionally dangerous to criticize a specific government's actions, so that fewer and fewer people will. This has never been about a people or a faith. It is one government and its paid advocates trying to wall off their own conduct from the criticism every other government on earth has to live with.

Watch what the war with Iran is being used to justify at home. A surge in censorship and surveillance, all of it wearing the costume of safety. New rules against misinformation that somehow always catch the people questioning the war. New monitoring programs that somehow always begin with the accounts asking who benefits. New pressure on the platforms to remove, throttle, and flag anything off message. A war abroad has always been the best cover for tightening control at home, because dissent can be repainted as disloyalty.

The establishment running this country is losing control of the big things all at once. It cannot stop the dollar system from fraying, and it cannot stop allies from drifting out from under a military umbrella it can no longer afford. Both are happening on their own now, driven by events no vote can reverse. So it reaches for the one thing it can still control, which is what you are allowed to say about any of it. This is what every establishment does in its final phase. When you can no longer fix the problem, you manage the perception of the problem. You do not calm the room by putting out the fire. You calm it by taking down the smoke alarms.

The Gulf monarchies cannot balance Iran on their own, and there is a natural partner sitting right next door. Israel and the Sunni monarchies share one overriding enemy, and it is Iran. Israel has the military strength the Gulf deliberately never built. The Gulf has the money and the same threat on its border. On paper they belong on the same side, and quietly they already cooperate. The one thing keeping that alliance covert and half-built is the Palestinian issue, which no Arab government can be seen ignoring. Settle it, with Israel pulled back toward its 1967 lines and a real settlement for the Palestinians, and the last barrier drops. An open regional security bloc becomes possible, one that can balance Iran without an American army standing behind it.

Saudi Arabia cannot defend itself alone, and it is a weakness the kingdom built on purpose. It kept its military deliberately weak for decades, and it did so out of fear. In this part of the world the thing that overthrows a monarchy is almost never a foreign army. It is your own officer corps. Egypt, Iraq, Libya, and others all lost their rulers to coups launched from inside their own armed forces. So the Gulf monarchies made a quiet trade. A weak, coup-proofed military at home, and American protection to cover the gap. Take the American protection away, as the Iran war effectively has, and they are suddenly exposed, with no strong military of their own and no way to build one fast.

The Saudis just learned that no one is coming to save them, and it is a preview of the entire American alliance system coming undone. Watching US forces get stretched thin by the Iran war, they spent the last year hedging, signing the Mecca defense pact with Pakistan and Turkey and reaching for Pakistan's nuclear umbrella so they would not depend on Washington alone. Then they invoked it for the war they are actually in, and Pakistan and Turkey told them it does not cover a conflict they were already fighting. They will keep the umbrella as a deterrent against Iran ever building a bomb, but for the war on their doorstep right now it does nothing, and neither can we, with our own magazines empty. Every outside guarantee went hollow at the same moment. And this matters far beyond one kingdom. America spends more defending allies like these than it ever gets back, and a gridlocked Washington will never vote to let them go. The only way these costly commitments come off our books is if the allies give up on us and leave on their own. This war is making them do exactly that.

A major Saudi oil pipeline that was hit a couple weeks ago is still offline, and the blunt truth is that America cannot do much about it. We do not have the interceptors and munitions to spare. And even when we did, we were unable to get the Houthis to stop shooting at our ships. In 2025, after 2 years of being unable to bomb them into submission, the president had to cut a deal and walk away. For fifty years the deal in the Gulf was simple. They pump oil and buy our debt, we guarantee their security. This war just showed the whole region that the second half of that deal is an IOU we can no longer cash. The superpower that promised to defend them physically cannot right now, and everyone watching can see that.

We need to consolidate our military footprint. That is a critical priority. But any president who tried to deliberately pull out of the alliances would be blocked. Congress ratified the treaties, funds the bases and the commitments, and the allies have enough friends in Washington to stop any orderly withdrawal cold. Deliberate change gets vetoed. But there is one kind of change nobody in Washington can veto, and that is an ally deciding on its own to walk away. If they lose faith in us and go make their own arrangements, no committee can force them to stay. So the only realistic path to getting these commitments off our balance sheet is to antagonize the allies into leaving on their end. This war is doing exactly that.

Most of the countries sheltering under our security umbrella are net negatives on our balance sheet. We spend more defending them than we get back, and we have for a long time. Getting them off our books is is a vital priority. A business carrying dozens of unprofitable divisions out of pure habit would be forced to cut them or go under, and we are at that point.

Our government is gridlocked by design, with a hundred veto points where any entrenched interest can kill a reform in calm times, and the banks just used one of them. But there is a single force that overrides all of it, and that is a real emergency. When the debt genuinely cannot find enough buyers, when rates spike and something in the financial system starts to break, the same Congress that blocked stablecoin yields last week will be forced to pass them very soon That is the uncomfortable truth about how this country changes now. Almost nothing important gets through on its merits in normal times. It gets through when a crisis leaves no other option. And this war is busy manufacturing exactly that kind of emergency, the kind that forces yield-bearing stablecoins through whether Washington likes it or not.
