Who they are: * High school students who started protesting in the Paris area last week * Now nationwide, many in masks * The government says "ultra-violent fringe groups" have taken over What they want: * More teachers * Smaller classes * Fixed buildings and cooler classrooms What they're doing to get it: * Blocking schools * Setting fires, including at the entrances of two Paris high schools * Fighting with police The damage so far: *170 students hurt * 65 school staff hurt, including 40 principals * 305 officers hurt in a single day * More than 100 schools "severely damaged" So their complaint is that the schools are falling apart, and their answer is to burn them? The PM called a crisis cabinet meeting. The government blames Mélenchon's hard-left party for stirring it up. The party calls that a "conspiracy theory." The presidential election is 7 months out. The Education Minister is begging parents to keep their kids home. Good luck with that.
