Really useful document - we also published a Cochrane Review on the topic that might help- showing lack of evidence for thickening fluids in dementia doi.org/10.1002/14651858.CD0…. @Eadaoin_Flynn @christi67350844

This is an important statement on thickened fluids highlighting the lack of high quality evidence for their use and potential harm. Congratulations RCSLT @dietitiansaus @MonashNutrition

I’m an SLT with 40 yrs clinical experience , an MSc in Dementia and daily experience of assisting people with dementia to eat and drink throughout their day. I can categorically say that the judicious use of thickened fluid has a role to play in person centred dysphagia care.

So important that SLT review dysphagia care for people living with dementia frequently throughout their day from day to day . VF, valuable but just a snapshot. Research, valuable but narrow, limited, tailored and all in the telling !! Keep the person at the heart of care !!

Absence of evidence is not enough. It would be need further validation by reporting the attempt to find out the evidence and results of it.
