I have little sympathy for @DelhiPolice when professional policing seems to begin and end with “orders from above.” We saw it during the farm agitation. We are seeing the same pattern again with recent protests. A police force cannot be a remote-controlled arm of the government, switching from restraint to force depending on who is giving the instructions. Law enforcement is supposed to enforce the law, not interpret “orders from above” as the law. A democracy needs a police force that answers to the Constitution and the law, not to political convenience. Otherwise, it isn't policing. It is power wearing a uniform.
