Ten playoff spots are set. Two will be determined on the last day of the regular season Sunday. Houston and Texas are tied atop the American League West at 80-81. Whoever wins the division will have the worst full-season record of a playoff team in MLB history. The Astros control their destiny, owning the tiebreaker. Houston is in Sacramento (Undecided vs. Brady Basso) at 3:05 p.m. ET. Texas is at Minnesota (MacKenzie Gore vs. Dean Kremer) starting five minutes later. The winner will be the No. 3 seed in the AL and host the sixth-seeded Chicago White Sox starting Tuesday in a three-game wild card series. Philadelphia and Arizona are battling for the final National League wild card spot. Philadelphia owns a one-game lead, but Arizona has the tiebreaker. So, if the Phillies win, they’re in. If both teams lose, the Phillies are in. But if Philadelphia loses and Arizona wins, the Diamondbacks are in. Whoever it is will travel to third-seeded Atlanta for a wild card series. The Phillies host AL-best Tampa Bay at 3:05 and will send co-ace Zack Wheeler against All-Star Nick Martinez. The Diamondbacks face division rival — and top NL wild card — San Diego, with Michael Soroka opposing TBD at 3:10.
