When the Charter was signed in 1945, four African countries were in the room. Today there are 54, more than a quarter of this Organization. The UN did not become global on its own. Africa made it global. With Africa, it became what its founders promised: "a home for all nations, large and small." I shared these words at a gathering of African Ministers co-hosted by International Peace Institute (@ipinst) President Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein and the Foreign Ministers of Egypt and Sierra Leone, Badr Abdelatty (@EgyptForeignMin) and Mohamed Rahman Swarray (@SwarayRahman). #UNGA81 #newUN

A meaningful exchange with Uruguay's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mario Lubetkin (@MinLubetkinUy), on Latin America's commitment to multilateralism and its contribution to international cooperation across the three pillars of the UN. I also took the opportunity to congratulate Uruguay on its pro tempore Presidency of CELAC and to discuss its role in addressing pressing challenges such as transnational organised crime. #newUN

On the sidelines of #UNGA81, I met with Morocco's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita (@MarocDiplomatie), for an exchange on the challenges facing the international system. We discussed the need for reform to strengthen the UN's capacity to respond effectively to today's crises and the importance of turning international commitments into concrete action on the ground. #newUN

Pleased to meet Côte d'Ivoire's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nialé Kaba (@niale_kaba), during #UNGA81 for a substantive conversation on Africa's priorities and ambitions. We highlighted the role of African-led solutions and initiatives, from the Luanda Decision on conflict prevention and resolution to the African Continental Free Trade Area, as key instruments to strengthen peace and security, advance regional integration, and unlock the continent's full potential. #newUN

During #UNGA81, I met with Kazakhstan's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mukhtar Tileuberdi (@MFA_KZ). We discussed the importance of international cooperation in biosafety and biosecurity. We also stressed the role of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia in conflict prevention and fostering regional dialogue. #newUN

In New York, I participated in the inaugural meeting of the Council on the Future of Global Education, chaired by former UK prime minister Gordon Brown (@GordonBrown), which focused on how AI and innovative financing can help expand access to quality education, particularly in countries facing the greatest gaps. In my remarks, I highlighted how AI is already delivering meaningful results across the developing world. I also stressed that we must look beyond the tools themselves and continue investing in the human infrastructure that makes them useful. That means the people and institutions that keep the education system running. #UNGA81

A valuable exchange with Indonesia's Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono (@Kemlu_RI) on the margins of #UNGA81. Our conversation centered on climate resilience and youth employment, two priorities that will shape the region's development in the years ahead. Looking ahead to the upcoming ASEAN and APEC summits, I stressed that the UN needs to partner more closely with regional organizations and local actors. #newUN

Honoured to be invited by H.E. Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Al-Issa, Secretary General of the Muslim World League (@MWLOrg_en), to this timely gathering during #UNGA81. Under Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Al-Issa the Muslim World League has built bridges across faiths, cultures and continents. For more than a decade, you have been a steady voice for peace, for humanity, and for dialogue between nations. Congratulations for convening us around a critical question: how do we ensure AI serves people? In my remarks, I argued that AI should not reproduce the historical patterns of inequality in access to technology. I also noted that AI can be everywhere and still remain inaccessible in practice because of barriers related to electricity, connectivity and language. Finally, I stressed that real diffusion is not about everyone having access to the same answers, but about everyone being able to use AI to ask their own questions. #newUN

Always inspiring to hear from President José Ramos-Horta (@JoseRamosHorta1) of Timor-Leste, Nobel Peace Prize laureate. On the margins of #UNGA81, we spoke about some of the difficulties multilateralism faces today and the need to uphold the principles of the UN Charter. We also discussed the particular challenges facing Small Island Developing States, including climate resilience, development priorities and the importance of ensuring their perspectives are reflected in the work of the UN. #newUN

In New York during #UNGA81, I met with the new Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, H.E. Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed (@OIC_OCI), and congratulated him on taking office. He brings years of experience at negotiating tables, including as a United Nations envoy. Strong partnerships with regional organizations are essential to effective multilateral action. #newUN

I met the President of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama (@JDMahama), in New York during #UNGA81. Ghana has served the United Nations since its own independence, from peacekeeping missions on four continents to the leadership of the Organization itself. A country that has given so much to this institution has earned a say in how it is rebuilt. #newUN

Today in New York, with Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Abdisalam Abdi Ali (@AbdisalamDhaay), @MOFASomalia, together with Costa Rica's Foreign Minister Manuel Tovar (@CRcancilleria). Somalia became a full member of the East African Community in 2024, deepening its ties with its neighbours and the region. As I witnessed personally earlier this year, Zambia is betting on investment to grow. The United Nations should help make that possible. #newUN
