Think about what just happened.
Last week, 2,009 handmade Del Mundo NFTs, and the humans behind them, voted on CLIMETA to direct $15k to three organisations protecting nature.
We're told we live in an age of indifference.
Trust is falling. People are switching off.
Not surprising really as a generation has inherited some pretty daunting economic and environmental problems.
And yet…
Give people identity, agency, community and a reason to participate and something interesting happens.
They show up.
We witnessed:
Hundreds of conservation videos watched.
2,009 votes cast.
$15k distributed.
Every voter rewarded.
All powered by technology that much of the world still doesn't quite know what to make of.
That's why this matters.
The Del Mundos didn't set out to tell people what NFTs could do.
Better to show them.
This was a small experiment.
But perhaps it demonstrated something much bigger:
Technology doesn't create connection, purpose or positivity - humans do.
But put the right technology in people's hands and it can ignite those qualities across the globe.
As Steve Jobs once said:
"Technology is nothing. What's important is that you have a faith in people, that they're basically good and smart, and if you give them tools, they'll do wonderful things with them”
