Had TTC fares continued rising at the pace they did in the 2000s, an adult fare today would be about $4.15 instead of $3.30. TTC fare revenue could be $80–130 million higher every year. That extra revenue could help fund better, more frequent service.

Something that I think is not as widely understood as it probably should be is that Toronto has had quite dramatically decreasing transit fares in real terms in the past decade or so. You have the fare freeze now, but the 2-hour transfer is also huge.

I agree of course, and I have no idea what Gil's position on this is, but its funny you don't hear the same thing about the TTC fare freeze.
Those hikes were the necessary catch-up after more than a decade of unsustainable freezes and ‘at or below inflation’ increases under Ford and Tory.
Now, after taking the hard medicine to improve fiscal position, you would go straight back to repeating the cycle.

Better transit to link central Mississauga and Richmond Hill with the Toronto's core and the region as a whole is a no-brainer. Whether it should be subway or serious regional rail via GO RER/GO Expansion should be what we're evaluating.
