People really think Messi is gonna stand in front of whole world and say: “Yeah, there were issues with the 2026 World Cup Final.” 😭😭 Of course he’s gonna be diplomatic publicly.

One last game for Argentina and Lionel Messi STILL had to put on a show. 😭🇦🇷 39 years old. Final appearance. Monumental packed to say goodbye. ⚽ 1 goal 🎯 2 assists ✅ 3-0 win He walked into the Argentina team as a kid carrying impossible expectations and leaves with a World Cup, 2 Copa Américas, a Finalissima and an entire country calling him immortal. 208 games. 126 goals. Decades of magic. There will be great players after Messi. But there will never be another story quite like Lionel Andrés Messi and Argentina. 🐐🇦🇷 Gracias, Leo. Forever our 10. 💙🤍

“Ronaldo single-handedly put Portugal on the map” might be one of the funniest football narratives ever 😭 Portugal had Eusébio, Figo, Rui Costa, Deco and generations of elite footballers before Cristiano. And look at the trophies they keep using for this argument: EURO 2016 — Pepe/Rui Patrício were arguably more decisive in the knockout run. Ronaldo literally went off injured in the final. Nations League 2019 — Bernardo Silva won Player of the Tournament. Nations League 2025 — Nuno Mendes was arguably Portugal’s standout player. Portugal produced an incredible generation. Ronaldo was a massive part of it. But acting like 10 other players spawned into existence just to carry his legacy is hilarious 😂 Meanwhile Messi actually won Player of the Tournament while leading Argentina to the World Cup. There are levels to “carrying a country.” 🐐🇦🇷

This is the part of Messi’s greatness that goal totals will NEVER fully explain. He didn’t just score goals. He didn’t just create chances. He dominated entire tournaments in both departments. 🏆 Titles won as tournament top scorer: Messi — 12 Ronaldo — 8 🎯 Titles won as tournament top assist provider: Messi — 14 Ronaldo — 1 👑 Titles won while being BOTH top scorer + top assist provider: Messi — 7 Ronaldo — 0 That last stat is absolutely ridiculous. Messi could be the best goalscorer in the tournament AND the best creator at the same time… then actually walk away with the trophy. People keep comparing specialists to the most complete attacking footballer ever. 😭🐐🇦🇷

Got kicked out by Perez. Got benched at Juventus. Got benched at Man Utd. Became a laughing stock in Saudi. And finally, had his overrated legacy exposed in Portugal. Poetic justice.

Lionel Messi is 39 years old and still doing THIS 😭🐐 Four days after scoring his 100th Inter Miami goal in a final, he casually drops goal No. 101 with a ridiculous free kick. His 2026 MLS season: 20 goals ⚽ 11 assists 🎯 23 appearances 31 G/A 5 free kick goals He’s literally leading the Golden Boot race while still being Miami’s main creator. At this point Messi isn’t fighting age. Age is fighting Messi. 🇦🇷🐐

Being completely honest, Pelé’s 3 World Cups will always be ridiculous. That record deserves respect. But Messi’s international legacy belongs in that same conversation now. 3 World Cup finals started: 2014, 2022, 2026. 🏆 1 World Cup 🏆 2 Copa Américas 🥇 Golden Ball in 2014 & 2022 🥈 Silver Ball in 2026 🥇 Olympic Gold And this is where the comparison gets interesting. Pelé won 3 World Cups, but he actually played in only TWO finals, 1958 and 1970, after injury ended his 1962 tournament early. Messi reached THREE finals as the centrepiece of Argentina across three different eras, won one, and was among the very best players at all three. In 2026 alone he finished with 8 goals + 4 assists and the Silver Ball. Then add TWO Copas and Messi’s absurd club career on top of it. Pelé’s World Cup legacy is immortal. But “Messi can’t reach Pelé because of international football” stopped being a serious argument a long time ago. 🐐🇦🇷

Ever notice how football discourse treats South American legends? Pelé gets reduced to “farmers era.” Maradona gets reduced to “one World Cup.” Messi gets hit with every possible excuse despite completing football. Meanwhile European legends get their careers romanticised forever, and Ronaldo’s goal totals alone are treated like the ultimate definition of greatness. 😭 Pelé. Maradona. Messi. Three different eras. Three South American monsters who dominated football in completely different ways. Maybe the GOAT debate has always had a little more bias in it than people want to admit. 🤔🐐

“But but I score more than Raphinha and Dembélé” 😭😭😭 - Kyloan Mbappe Real Madrid assembled Vini, Mbappé, Bellingham, Diomande, Bernardo Silva and still walked out of the Metropolitano with an L 😭😭😭 Vini? Hooked. Diomande? Sent on to rescue them, Oblak said NO. Bernardo? Arrived just in time to assist the consolation goal. 😭 And Mbappé REALLY wanted the Ballon d’Or? Brother, when the derby needed a superstar, Atlético had you looking like another name on the teamsheet. All that Madrid PR just to leave the Metropolitano 2–1 down and looking at Barcelona above them. Cinema. 🍿😂🤫

Every GOAT argument eventually runs into the same problem: Lionel Messi has an answer for it. Pelé? “World Cups.” Messi started 3 World Cup finals, was Player of the Tournament in all 3, and won the World Cup. 🇦🇷 Maradona? “He carried Argentina.” Messi became Argentina’s greatest scorer, creator and captain, then completed the story with the World Cup. Cruyff? “Total football. Intelligence. Playmaking.” Messi took that footballing idea to its absolute limit: goalscorer, playmaker, dribbler and controller at once. Cristiano? “Mr Champions League.” Messi won 4 UCLs, and finished only 11 goals and 2 assists behind the supposed UCL king while playing significantly fewer games. 😭 And the funniest part? Messi beat Neymar in a Copa América final. Beat Mbappé in a World Cup final. Beat Cristiano Ronaldo in a Champions League final. 😂 Different generations. Different GOAT arguments. Messi somehow has a reply to nearly every single one. That’s why his case was never built around one stat, one tournament or one skill. He basically completed football. 🐐🇦🇷

Messi winning the 2014 World Cup Golden Ball was NOT some sympathy award. He had: 4 goals + 1 assist 24 key passes 23 chances created 46 successful dribbles 13 big chances created 5 MOTM awards 8.52 average rating He dragged Argentina all the way to the FINAL while being their main scorer, creator, dribbler and chance generator. People look at the Germany final, see Argentina lost 1-0, and suddenly rewrite the entire tournament. The Golden Ball is for the best player across the WHOLE World Cup. In 2014, Messi was absolutely in that conversation from matchday one to the final whistle. 🇦🇷🐐
