In Gnostic philosophy ignorance (agnōsia) is viewed as the primary root of all cosmic evil, suffering, and existential bondage, rather than personal sin or moral disobedience. 🤔

Gnostics believed Jesus was sent from the spiritual realm by the true, supreme God (the Monad) to bring gnosis (secret or mystical knowledge) to humanity. This knowledge helps the divine spark trapped inside humans escape the material world.

Gnostics do pray, but their approach to prayer is often focused on inward reflection, divine wisdom (gnosis), and alignment with the divine spark rather than traditional petitionary begging.

This is where Canada is now. John Adair, co-owner and head brewer at Sooke Brewing Company, was terminated after wearing a shirt that said “SHOW ME THE EVIDENCE” on Truth and Reconciliation Day. And apparently asking that question is offensive. Because, Canada. Here’s the problem... The story that detonated across Canada in 2021 was that the remains of 215 children had been discovered at the former Kamloops residential school. They weren’t. And we mostly all know they weren't. No 215 bodies were excavated. No 215 sets of human remains were forensically identified. No DNA confirmations established 215 children buried there. The number came from ground penetrating radar anomalies, and those targets remain unverified by excavation. Five years later, people are still being punished socially and professionally for asking the most basic question imaginable... Where is the evidence for the claim we were originally told was settled fact? That’s how evidence works. A country that is confident in its historical claims shouldn’t need to destroy somebody’s livelihood because his T-shirt asked for proof. Residential schools existed. Children died in them mostly due to tuberculosis. Yep. Abuse and neglect are extensively documented as well. But that does not magically turn radar anomalies into 215 confirmed bodies. Those are two separate claims, and collapsing them together every time someone asks an uncomfortable question is precisely how bad history becomes untouchable dogma. If “SHOW ME THE EVIDENCE” is now enough to get a man fired, maybe the problem isn’t the shirt. Maybe it’s how terrified we’ve become of the question.

Phyllis Webstad, the woman behind Orange Shirt Day, didn’t attend a residential school and says in her memoir that she liked her public school teacher so much that she wished she could take her home. “The Mission was the place where we slept and ate. When I attended in 1973, there were 272 students in total, boys and girls. All of the students were bussed into Williams Lake to attend public school, about 20 minutes away. ... I liked my teacher there, she had crazy red curly hair, she smelled good, and she was kind — I wished she could take me home with her.” I don’t blame her. Here’s how Webstad’s aunt describes life on the Dog Creek reserve where she and Phyllis grew up: “There was lots of violence and drinking on the reserve. Many times at Granny Suzanne’s, we had to hide ourselves for our safety, usually in the sweat house or the haystack by the creek. My two uncles lived with us. One of them abused me sexually, and the other abused me mentally and physically. He would beat me and my brother with sticks and anything he could get his hands on. He even bullwhipped us once.” There is no conspiracy to steal Native kids from their homes. There are hundreds of years of priests, nuns, and other Christian Canadians taking care of needy Indigenous children out of genuine compassion and concern. These selfless and heroic acts of love deserve the respect and admiration of our entire nation. Next Orange Shirt Day, we can wear black and white to honour them. Gnostics believe Jesus came to wake up the divine spark trapped inside human bodies. Gnostics teach that human suffering comes from spiritual ignorance, not moral sin. Jesus provided the hidden truth needed to escape the physical world.
