Brutal Post Apoc Biopunk Horror Western TTRPG inspired by Fallout: New Vegas and Dark Sun. Solo indie designer. Mixed Media. New Flesh. Old Dust.

Valley of Ash
Welcome to RAZORWIRE. New Flesh, Old Dust. Deep in a valley on a nameless planet, a putrid mutated humanity struggles to survive. Horrific disfigured flesh clashes with bio-tech engineered technology. Cowboy boots slide in the blood of puritans and villains alike. An uneasy blood red sky washes overhead. The chattering teeth of gibbering cannibals croak in the hills, whilst soft folk echoes from farmsteads below. A huge festering wound of a city pumps out smog and vice. All the while, hungry skeletal ravagers wait in the dark. Facebook: facebook.com/Razorlands/ Youtube: piped.video/@Razorlands/vide…

I fucking love social spaces in games. Ever since Lefty's Bar in Leisure Suit Larry I loved hanging out in sleazy video game bars. Then there was the Smoldering Corpse in Planescape, or Chora's Den in Mass Effect or The Asylum in Bloodlines. Of the many many reasons I love New Vegas is because it's filled with social spaces, all of which are wonderfully built with the resources and time available back then. I love that there is perfect music pieces that play in New Vegas' clubs and tonks, that each space has so much character. I especially love all the music that plays at Gomorrah, despite being an undercooked area. I appreciate the Muddy Rudder and Morarity's in Fallout 3, too - but the New Vegas bars and clubs hit just right for me.

The reasons Sunny Smiles has so many, ugh, "fans" are actually numerous. Sure sure, there's the Gooners, but she's such an important element of the New Vegas experience, even outside of her obvious role as the tutorial guide. I really like how she's written and designed as this laid-back wasteland chick, who has a dog and a home and is willing to fight for it. She introduces the player to the area and gives you the opportunity to learn about the zone and it's dangers, as well as it's rewards. She's especially cool, as all her content is skippable but most just enjoy engaging with her. She also introduces an apolitical standpoint on the region's conflict, which could spark a player's early interest into what could turn into a Yes Man ending.

Energy weapons are sloppily implemented in Modern Fallout games because they break the sense of grittiness. I think all Energy weapons should be these super rare end game weapons: long lost artifacts that require lots of maintenance and care. I also think they should be super fucken overpowered compared to hunting rifles and varmint guns or whatever. A lot of Modern Fallout games have energy weapons littering the joint and this feels dumb and poorly thought out. Getting an energy weapon in the OG games was fucken wild because you knew you were going to absolutely wreck shit. Don't even get me started on dumb shit like the laser musket rifle. Good grief.

Can someone please explain to me why Nick Valentine has set up shop in a town terrified of Synths when he's a literal fucken robot? And...no one cares?

One of the many reasons I love New Vegas is because it has such a brilliant sense of melancholy. When writers and designers set their sights on a specific tone, they need to commit to it. Because the newer Fallout games are smorgasbords rather than fine dining, they cater to everyone and no one. Tone, especially melancholy, is hard to get right. I actually think there are aspects in both Fallout 3 and Far Harbor that capture this, whilst Fallout 4 is all over the place. You can't really explore Nostalgia and the impact of the past if you're not willing to engage with it sincerely. You can't really make any comment on the nature of mankind and war if your whole game is about explosions and lasers and robots. You have to try harder than that.

Thank Christ I was never forced to read Hemingway in High School. Having discovered him in my 20s and loved his stuff all this time is such a gift.
