The government prefers the language of “safe and legal routes” and “working families.” Critics reach for a different phrase when the numbers jump and the enforcement fails. The question that follows is not only how many boats, but what happens after they land. There is no official Home Office ledger titled “rapes by small-boat arrivals, last two years.” What exists is coarser. Ministry of Justice figures obtained under FOI show that in 2024 foreign nationals accounted for about 155 of 720 convictions for rape of a female aged 16 or over—roughly one in five once “unknown” nationality is set aside—while making up around 11 per cent of the population. Across all sexual offences that year, known foreign nationals made up about 14 per cent of convictions (1,114 cases). Those convictions rose 62 per cent between 2021 and 2024, faster than the rise among British nationals. Some of the nationalities most common on the boats also appear among the higher per-capita rates. That is not the same as proving every new arrival is a threat. It is also not nothing. Convictions are a fraction of recorded rapes; most cases never reach court. Foreign national is not the same as “just arrived in a dinghy.” The data gap itself is part of the argument: ministers publish crossings daily and resist a clean nationality-and-offence breakdown for the gravest crimes. The government spent it. Then they have the cheek to look at the rest of us like we’re scroungers for wanting it back. They never put their own money in. Not a pound. They took ours, blew it, and when it was our turn they changed the word. “Entitlement.” As if I crawled in begging. Then they moved the line. Retirement age up. Then up again. Work till you drop. Wait till you’re worn out. Hope you live long enough to see what you already paid for. That’s the con, empty the pot, shove the age back, and let more of us die waiting. And some of the young ones sneer. Talk as if we stole their lives. As if we sat on our backsides. We paid in when the deal was 60 or 65. We didn’t invent this mess. We grafted and now we’re the villains while they raise the age and spend the money elsewhere! 😤 It was never locked away with my name on it. I know that. They used it like a slush fund and expected us to swallow it. Look at them. Fat packages. Weeks off. Sick pay. Sorted. GREEN NET ZERO IS BOLLOCKS. The poor are more interested in survival... its a scam; a select few get rich and our lives get poorer. Net zero as a global 2050 project fails the arithmetic of other people’s priorities. About 730 million people still have no electricity and nearly two billion cook on dirty fuels. For them the first good is light, heat, a job and a hospital fridge—not a carbon budget written in London. Cheap, dispatchable power still means coal and gas in much of India, ASEAN and Africa. IEA outlooks keep pointing to those regions as the main source of extra coal demand this decade even as Europe retires plants. Households and governments there will not strand growth to honour a Western timetable. That is not villainy. It is the same choice rich countries made when they industrialised. China’s role is not a sermon; it is a business model. Beijing installs record solar and wind, and solar capacity has even overtaken coal on the nameplate. At the same time it still burns more coal than anyone, keeps adding thermal plant, and pays coal stations to stay available as backup. That is energy security with a green shopfront. The export side is clearer: China dominates panels, cells, batteries and EVs. Clean-tech goods are now a large and rising slice of its exports. Other countries buy the kit to look like they are decarbonising; China books the manufacturing surplus and keeps a coal-backed grid at home. Lip service plus factory orders is a rational strategy, not a conversion. Western net-zero laws cannot close that gap. They can raise domestic bills, offload industry, and import Chinese hardware whose upstream emissions sit on someone else’s books. If the poorest choose survival and the biggest emitter monetises the transition, unilateral net zero does not “save the planet.” It reallocates production.
