It’s been fantastic to serve as media officer, co-chair and lately chair of our local party. With the AGM approaching, I’ve decided not to stand for any local exec roles and make way for new leadership.

9/11 will always be remembered with grief. I condemn the horrific terrorist attacks and the innocent lives lost. But I also remember the Islamophobia that followed, when innocent Muslims were blamed, targeted and abused for crimes they had no part in. Terrorism has no religion.

I have every sympathy for Marlon West and his daughter for the abuse they endured. But his remarks about Pakistanis were a racist generalisation about an entire community. How can Pakistani patients feel confident being treated by a nurse who publicly expressed such views?

Congrats to all our elected Green cllrs in B&D! Few years ago, we were less than 50 members believing Barking and Dagenham deserved kinder and fairer politics. Today, we are around 350 members with 4 elected cllrs. Proud of every campaigner and resident who believed in us. 💚

Anti-Muslim hate incidents surged to record levels last year, a 43% increase on 2024. Now that we have a definition agreed by govt, I am desperate for the conversation on Islamophobia to move towards a clear roadmap for action. I asked the govt how soon this will happen.
