The prices you pay are utterly disconnected from the value you receive. At minimum, you're paying for insane insurance and regulatory overhead. But typically you're paying the maximum someone can feasibly squeeze you for before you go through hell and back to find an alternative

I believe YAML-DSLs grow from bad assumptions:
1. Config is data, not code
2. We want to prevent clever metaprogramming of config
3. It's declarative
4. YAML is easy
5. Users can't handle "real code"
Really only one positive: it's easier to programmatically modify YAML

“Highlighter girl” conjured up a memory for me. Many years ago in high school, during the first day of an art class, the girl I was sitting next to was writing furiously while the teacher was talking about the semester. I glanced over to see what she could possibly be writing, and as the teacher said “be sure to take notes”, she wrote “TAKE GOOD NOTES” and underlined it.
