Over the last few days we’ve seen public figures, ‘journalists’ and politicians publicly deny that the English exist as a people. Not only is this an outrageous lie; it is genocidal rhetoric. Gregory Stanton’s Ten Stages of Genocide outline this clearly: “Denying the identity, history, or reality of a group is a primary mechanism used to facilitate, normalise, or retroactively defend mass crimes.” To use this sort of language about any other group of people would lead to prosecution and social ostracism, yet major public figures can espouse vile racism against the English with no consequence. We understand that seeing publicly elected figures who are supposedly meant to represent our interests using terms against the English, such as ‘mongrel’, is incredibly demoralising and dehumanising. But they are wrong. The English are a people. A people who innovated, conquered and helped forge the greatest civilisation the world has ever seen. We are Englishmen. We exist. And we are proud.
