Some Oregonians have up to seen 5x increases on their student loan repayment plans. Oregonians deserve better than to struggle through massive student debt loans. Republicans have made it harder for people to pay off loans since their Big Ugly Bill took effect.

I chose to focus on a real problem: the SAVE plan is ending, and more than 7 million student loan borrowers may be affected. Students who still have remaining balances will see their rates increase up to five times what they were paying under the SAVE plan. This is unacceptable.

AI is already shaping how students learn and how people earn a living, but federal rules and regulations to protect students, support workers, and enforce ethical standards do not exist. The companies building these tools don’t get to regulate themselves; we need clear rules and accountability for how AI is used in classrooms and workplaces. My human-centered legislation will empower and protect students, families, educators and others in the workforce by investing in evidence-based research, reskilling, transparency, safety, and long-term strategies. Congress must act now so AI does not continue to threaten the development of critical thinking skills and the wellbeing of humanity.

Innovations in disaster mitigation can save lives, but emergency responders and communities in crisis need data they can actually use. Preventing the next wildfire and keeping Oregonians safe requires coordination and clear information at every level.

Artificial intelligence can improve disaster preparedness and response, but we need clear rules and safeguards so powerful models don't cause the next disaster.

Public schools should prepare students to be creative, critical thinkers who will succeed regardless of what path they take in life. But right now students and schools are facing new and complicated challenges, including digital distraction and generative AI. We need an evidenced-based plan that meets the moment. The Transforming Education for the Future Act delivers policies and investments that support students, empower educators, and strengthen public schools across the nation.
