The Lipan Apache Tribe of Texas are our trusted friends who have made significant contributions throughout American history. They deserve federal recognition. This Administration has repeatedly abandoned our farmers and ranchers. Reckless tariffs have raised operations costs while increasing grocery store prices on consumers. Did you know the average price of ground beef has risen almost every month to a record high of more than $7 per pound? It's unacceptable, and you deserve better. I'm a strong supporter of the RELIEF Act to reimburse American small businesses and producers who were hard hit by the crushing costs of tariffs.

The Port of Corpus Christi exports about $2.5 billion of energy every three days. If the federal government reinvested $3 out of every $100 collected in corporate income tax back into the local communities that support these operations, our region would have about half a billion dollars each year to improve public infrastructure and services. South Texas is one of the most uninsured regions in the country. Extreme Republicans in Washington are making it worse. I support bipartisan efforts to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits that help seniors, veterans and working families afford health insurance. Yet, refusal from extreme Republicans to join us in a commonsense solution has driven monthly premiums up by over 50% on average this past year.

Extreme Republicans in Washington have accelerated inflation, which is increasing costs on almost everything. South Texans are fed up with partisan politics. It's past time for Congress to come together and work in a bipartisan manner to lower the cost of housing, food, healthcare, prices at the pump, and more.

In Texas, a BBQ menu without brisket is sacrilegious—but one of the top smokehouses in our state is having to make that sacrifice to stay afloat amid skyrocketing beef prices. American farmers and ranchers have become collateral damage in the Administration's trade war, and now small businesses are paying the price by limiting their menus or closing altogether. This Administration's rogue ICE agency is going beyond the deportation of violent criminals. Last week's unlawful detention of two South Texas teenagers on their way to enlist in the Marines and the shooting of Wilber Rafael Garces Perez in Austin are just the latest outcomes of hyperaggressive immigration raids and inhumane tactics being used across the nation. Independent, thorough investigations must be conducted into these incidents. Wilber horrifically still has a bullet lodged in his back and must urgently be released for continued medical treatment rather than being locked up in an ICE facility.

Over the weekend, I attended the Lipan Apache Tribe's 2026 Veterans Powwow in Corpus Christi. From serving in our military and protecting the environment and sacred sites to much more, the Lipan Apache Tribe of Texas are our trusted neighbors—deeply woven into the fabric of South Texas. It's past time they receive official federal recognition. That's why I've introduced the Lipan Apache Tribe of Texas Recognition Act, which would grant the Tribe and its members access to all of the rights, services and benefits provided by the Federal Government to federally recognized Indian Tribes.

South Texas serves as a crucial gateway for the distribution of oil and gas exports to international markets; it's only right that our region directly benefits from the industries it supports. I introduced a bill that would reinvest a portion of existing energy revenues to support education, roads, bridges, clean water, and other infrastructure and public services in communities like Brownsville and Corpus Christi that are home to major oil and gas export ports, without raising taxes.

Tariffs have driven up the costs of fertilizer and fuel, shutting 2,000 Texas farmers out of markets they need to sell their crops while raising grocery store prices for South Texans. I am fighting for policies that support our farmers, which includes putting an end to these reckless tariffs. We need to support our local farmers and protect America's agricultural industry!

🚨 Since the start of the Administration's war in Iran, the average South Texas family has paid an additional $803 to fill up their gas tanks. 🚨 I voted for a War Powers Resolution to block any further hostilities in Iran. American lives have been lost, and our families cannot afford another forever war. What could you do with an extra $803 in your pocket?

Rather than lowering costs for American families, the Administration is forcing taxpayers to foot a more than $43 billion bill for its costly war in Iran that has depleted U.S weapon stockpiles and created a serious national security risk for our country.
