“Congress has never before released a private citizen’s tax information. It won’t be hard for partisans (in either party) to justify seizing & releasing anyone’s returns.”
House Democrats’ release of Donald Trump’s taxes is a violation of taxpayer privacy with no legislative purpose, and it could open an ugly new battlefield in American politics. on.wsj.com/3Cdlcvf

After 50 years banned, the “enemies list” is back in DC. My biggest worry is this dangerous new political weapon will target & destroy private citizens who land on that list. And yes - thx to Jan 6 panel precedent of subpoenaing members of Congress - lawmakers at risk too.

How is this a bad thing? I think every elected public official should be required to release their taxes. I would like to know how you made your money while you were a Congressman Rep. Brady. I think the public deserves to know what you're hiding.

Will Republicans be able to get a court order for President Biden to release his taxes? Oh wait, He released them already because he isn’t hiding anything. Get ready for 2 wasted years under Republican rule.

Nothing new. It’s already THE LAW! Accessed records using little-known provision IN tax code, which congressional Joint Committee on Taxation used in 1973/1974 to access former President Nixon’s tax returns Law is crystal clear: Congress CAN obtain President’s tax returns

You people boast your lavish lifestyle, but are afraid of the common folk to see your tax returns? If it’s on the up and up, you wouldn’t be complaining.

Corrupt traitor rump should have released them himself, like others have done, but he didn't and lied. What do you think of his foreign bank accounts, or are you overlooking those?

Ridiculous claim b/c DT promised released of them during his 2016 campaign. Then, USH&WM Comm. and USHOC requested them and Trump sued up to appeals to U.S. Supreme Court. He lost and NOW the release of returns are retroactive from the initial requests 2017-19. YOU KNOW THIS!!

@GOP @WSJopinion - YES, it could be used to embarrass or destroy someone politically.😍 You said he had been under audit for all 6 years covered by the release BUT no audits had been conducted during the first 2 years of his presidency, as is mandatory.😠 thehill.com/homenews/house/3…

Sir, you're misleading readers about the core issue. Mr. Trump didn't go through the mandatory audit of his taxes upon assuming office as President and public servant as required IAW the Constitution and IRS policy. Nixon caused that.

They released them because that lying scum-bag #DonaldTrump said he was under audit. HE WAS NOT. "What don't you fucking understand?" Donald Trump cheats on his wives and taxes. What a role model! Happy New Year!

Holding liars accountable should be expected. Professional liars (Politicians) like Brady, @GOPLeader, etc. greatest fear is to be held accountable for their lies. They know they can stand in front of people and look them straight in the eye & lie.

People should understand that private citizens are audited at the discretion of the IRS IAW the evidence and procedures process. For President and officials who form/ implement policy upon assuming post, audits are mandated by law and/or regulation.
10
Replying to @RepKevinBrady
The President cannot just order a private citizen via the IRS to be audited, that's undermining the regulatory procedures and privacy laws in place to protect citizens from vindictive individuals in government. Case history: Nixon.

Unless Republicans unabashedly attack in the same merciless manner, it will continue to happen over and over and over again, including to many people not named Trump. No consequences so they act with impunity. Mutual Assured Destruction is not applicable only to nuclear weapons.

1. Every modern President has released their tax returns. Why didn't Trump? 2. Every President since Nixon had their taxes audited. Why didn't Trump? 3. Maybe the precedent we should be worried about is allowing a criminal at the top of a criminal organization to occupy the WH.

Even NIXON released his taxes FFS. The only people worried about their taxes getting released are those that have something to hide. Trump is the only President that had something to hide, and he lied over and over about why he couldn't release them, that's what infuriates me.
