If there is any issue that shouldn't be partisan, it is stopping fraud. And California unfortunately has more of it than any state. $32 billion in unemployment fraud alone. When fraudsters steal unemployment funds, people out of work lose support. When fraudsters steal SNAP benefits, hungry families lose meals. When fraudsters steal Medi-Cal funds, patients lose care. When fraudsters steal homelessness funds, people lose shelter. When fraudsters steal financial aid, students lose educational opportunities. When fraudsters steal hospice funds, people lose comfort and dignity at the end of life. When fraudsters steal veterans’ benefits, those who served so valiantly lose support. When fraudsters steal SBA funds, local businesses lose help. When fraudsters steal workers’ comp funds, injured workers lose treatment. When fraudsters steal child care funds, working families lose care for their kids.

We've sent a bipartisan, bicameral letter to the Interior Secretary opposing any plan to turn over part of Yosemite to private development. Yosemite is a national treasure that must always belong to the public.

Today we remember all who lost their lives on one of the most tragic and fateful days in our nation’s history 25 years ago. It is also an occasion to remember how we saw America at its very best: from the heroism of our first responders and ordinary citizens, to the way we came together as a country and put all of our differences aside. We are formally asking the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to block Newsom's new healthcare tax. Voters expressly prohibited him from imposing such a tax, which will increase premiums by up to $400 for California families.

A new poll shows two-thirds of Californians oppose Newsom's ban on gas cars, which he imposed without a vote of any kind. Fortunately, my Resolution overturning the ban passed with bipartisan support and is now law. The will of the people prevailed.

Governor Gavin Newsom just signed a new healthcare tax that will increase premiums for Californians by hundreds of dollars. Today, I spoke on the House Floor in support of H.R. 3104, the Ukrainian Adjustment Act. This legislation would adjust their status to lawful permit resident. It’s the right thing to do for these individuals and their families. It’s the right thing to do for our economy and for communities across this country.

Last week, USA Properties broke ground on The Steven, a 180-home affordable senior apartment community in Rocklin. This new complex will provide affordable apartment homes for our seniors, helping address the growing need for affordable housing in Placer County. Good news. Our bill to stop the massive fraud seen at California Community Colleges just passed the House with strong bipartisan support. California allowed millions in financial aid from 1.2 million “ghost” students, a third of all applicants.

It was an honor to welcome National Spelling Bee champion Shrey Parikh of California to the Capitol. In the lightning round tiebreaker, Shrey spelled an astounding 32 words correctly in 90 seconds. The winning word was "bromocriptine."

I'm not the only one critical of California's absurdly slow vote count. A Washington Post editorial calls it a "national embarrassment." The NY Times compared it to the "pre-telegraph era." It's another example of our government struggling to perform basic functions.

Yesterday, in a bipartisan way, we made it clear that the United States will continue to stand with the Ukrainian people and provide the material support necessary for their self-defense. We made it equally clear that Russia will pay a severe price for its unprovoked aggression and ongoing violence. This is the leverage needed for constructive negotiations to end this conflict. This is what is required for peace.
