This past weekend’s I was able to celebrate Houston workers and community leaders. I attended the Women in Labor Breakfast, Union Labor Day BBQ, and Equality Texas’ Barbara Jordans Garden Party, honoring leaders like Congressman Christian Menefee and Brandon Mack.

September is Sickle Cell Awareness Month. ❤️
Today also marks one year since HB 107 took effect, establishing a statewide Sickle Cell Registry to strengthen care, data, and resources for Texans living with SCD. One year of progress and the work continues.

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to see a community-driven vision take shape in Westbury! 🌳 This Harris County Precinct 1 project will add walking paths, a new circle drive, and connect Westbury to Sims Hill in Sunnyside, helping create a more walkable, connected Houston.

Today, I met with the Baylor College of Medicine Teen Health Clinic to learn more about their work serving young people ages 13–26. We discussed access to healthcare, sexual & reproductive health, mental health, career pathways, and the clinic’s need for additional support.💙

Today, the Public Health Committee discussed Texas’ infant mortality crisis. We can’t be a “pro-life” state when we can’t even guarantee infant survival. Losing a child ruins lives and families. We must invest in our babies and mothers to ensure all Texans have a life to live.
